Im sorry but i just cant agree with alot that being said in here.

You know why chad isnt a star? Because he doesn't have star quality. Point blank. That has nothing to do with Bernard. I like chad but the facts are this.

    -He has zero personality.
    -He cant draw
    -Hes been somewhat inactive
-Hes talented but he fights so lackadasical that only purist notice that talent (so to casuals he just comes off as boring)

To be a star you gotta be either very exciting in the ring or very flamboyant outside it and chad is neither. Bernard has nothing to do with it. Besides that the fight was stopped too early too gather any real opinion because both of them had done nothing up to that point so for all we know maybe chad got saved from an L. But thats neither here nor there. The point is another poster mentioned it earlier, maybe chad should earn his stardom on his own merit and not on the back of an old man. Pay some dues. People forget, hopkins wasnt always a star (though i think hes barely a star). He didnt get his break until he was 36! How old is dawson?

If he was meant to be a star i think he would be one honestly. I dont think beating bernard would make him a star. I think the fight would have looked ugly with one of them pulling out a close decision. People who think bernard was gonna get beat up or stopped are crazy. Ive watched the guy for a long time and if he felt like he couldnt compete he would just stink the joint out ala mosley vs pac. Because one thing old vets know how to do is not get knocked out. Mosley survived for 12 rounds and made both him and pac look bad in the process. Bernard would of done the same thing if he thought he couldnt hang. The point im trying to make is chad wasnt becoming a star off that fight win or lose.

Dawson is an underachiever. He never had a chance at greatness.

Some good points there. Even if Chad had won, B Hop would have made it look so ugly it wouldn't have helped him. Even in those few rounds it was a pretty dire fight.

Chad needs to go back to school and get some education, get some media training, get a personality. Maybe that would help him. :good

TBH, Hopkins did ***** out but Dawson is no flurry kind of fighter that would've given Hopkins hell. The single shots he would've landed could've still done damage though but no, Hopkins "hurts" his shoulder. The only thing Hopkins ruined was the night against Dawson with his dramatics, Dawson has himself to blame for giving Pascal the victory. He is so reluctant to let his hands go which is frustrating as he could've tko'd Pascal and Hopkins wouldn't have stood a chance against him(probably didn't anyways when they "fought") but the truth is Sad Chad didn't. Hopefully him and Cloud can fight at least Cloud knows how to entertain other than Sad Chad and the Decisioner/Actor. Hopkins needs to give refunds for that crap he pulled. TBF to Chad, **** personality it's about giving the fans the pleasing performances they need to see but he doesn't do that. He needs "personality" lol, he's a boxer not a potential date.

It was the way Dawson was stalking Hopkins, making him uncomfortable, sort of like the Calzaghe fight. Dawson was calm and collected. Fighting tall, behind the jab and following with combinations once in a while. That's a tough nut for Hopkins to crack and he knew it.

I will always have the belief that Hopkins thought he got Dawson at the right time mentally. Hopkins was banking on Dawson being mentally fragile given his last 2 fights. And when he found out that this wasn't the case, Hopkins knew he had a tough hill to climb. And when the "injury" occurred, he bailed out. And i'm a huge Hopkins fan. But i have to be realistic.

I think he had it in the bag because
    1. He's beaten better fighters than 46 year old Hopkins (Tarver, Adamek, Johnson) aren't better fighters than Hopkins, but in my opinion they were better when Dawson beat them, than Hopkins on the night he got in with Dawson. That said, there's no reason for me to believe that Hopkins would beat Dawson.

    2. Dawson was athletically/physically better than Hopkins and I believe over the course of 12 rounds this would have shown clearly. Unlike Pascal who also had Physical advantages, Dawson wouldn't fight at Hopkins pace, he would have at a minimum kept a jab on him and made him have to do something besides have one good flurry to win a round.

    3. Dawson wanted it more, this was "the" fight to him and I think he was the hungrier guy with more to lose, and I believe that would have given him another advantage he didn't really need, but could have used if necessary.

Dawson ruined his own chances by running his big mouth and saying no rematch. If I were Hopkins I wouldn't fight him either. Sure Dawson was on his way to a win, but thats how it goes.

No disrespect but he's already accomplished a helluva lot. Won the WBC title at 24 by beating Adamek, beat Tarver twice (once for the IBF belt at 25), beat Johnson twice...got up to #6 P4P in the world...I wouldn't say he's an underachiever, there aren't many guys who can say they've done those things. Not to mention he has some good years left he's not an old guy by any means, time will tell.

Well **** no Hopkins wouldn't fight him again, lets be real he didn't want to fight him in the first place. He ****ed around and got cornered into the fight, and "had" to take it. He knows the deal just as well as anyone here...no way Hopkins wins that fight.

This was a poorly viewed, poorly attended fight that was shaping up to be the stinker that everyone thought it would be. Even if Dawson knocked him out in the third round (which of course is highly highly unlikely), this wasn't going to make him a star. Hopkins' fight with Oscar sold 1 million; this one may have sold as few as 40k. There's a reason Shaw and Dawson would prefer going for the rematch with Pascal in Canada to getting another Hopkins fight.
