All the coaching the world wont change a fighter's fundamental DNA. Khan is a fast, amatuer style, square on combination puncher. The last time he lost sparked a lot of changes & some improvements, he still clearly has flaws which he can work on. Everyone has mentioned how poor he is inside, how his hands are faster than his feet but one of his biggest problems imo is that he never looks relaxed in the ring & is always expending energy. For a fighter who relies so much on his speed this is always going to cause trouble. He also seems to lack adaptability & has no other tactics to revert to.
He didn't fold when Peterson was roughing him up and he managed to change the flow a few times late in the fight when that was happening. That tells me he's got what it takes mentally to be great, he doesn't have to Einstein to follow a gameplan. He just needs more improvement on some facets of his game and some evening out of his flaws. We know he has the tools.
he isnt the sharpest tool in the box and i agree with what every one is saying also he always has the RIGHT STYLE to beat some one but he never gives any analysis of what it is. unlike when bradley was fighting devon he said exactly what he needed to do with him he said he was a reaction fighter he reacts to everything you do so you just set him up with fients.
I agree to an extent, but the truth is that we don't know if he's being taught to fight on the inside, or if he's just tought to win by using his strengths. I think if he had any semblance of an inside game his lack of ring intelligence wouldn't be half as pronounced as it appears right now.
Actually if he would just stop thinking completely and follow Roaches plan to the letter it would work out better for him as well (much like Pac) Right now he does not listen and once he gets pressured he reverts back to his amateur style.
Always hated him as a fighter. Reminds me of footballers who get rated due to having great pace or acceleration. No substance to him, no ability to slow it down and mix it up with more deliberate heavy shots. Just like a bunny rabbit, doing the same thing over and over.
The guy doesn't look comfortable in the ring to me. He looks tense and twitchy, like a squirrel out in the open. Khan needs to learn to relax in the ring. He also needs to think before he speaks. Guy loses fans and potential fans everytime he opens his mouth.
I was thinking more Theodore Walcott. Someone on the Brit forum compared him to Walcott the other day, and I'm sure I did as well on a thread a couple of years ago.
Good post Jack. My thinking with Khan is that his ego is preventing him from improving. I don't think he thinks he needs to. Even after a loss, granted it was a tight fight, he doesn't seem to think he is any part of the problem. It was DC, or the ref or whatever. I also think he is an early prime fighter and his days of being able to dance around the ring will be shortlived likely, he needs to work on infighting, but will he? We'll see.
If he keeps getting involved in fights like Madaina/Peterson he'll become great, maybe not in the Floyd sense but as one of the most exciting fighters in boxing
