when we trained, either at the am gym or pro gym,we did lots of body only sparring,no head hunting,it was superb.
problem is,the am's dident and still don't like inside fighting, its not getting taught at grass root boxing much at all.

slip, great post, had to go and get a brew half way through:yep

That's a good point that I agree with (encourages a 'gloved fencing' style) but that's no excuse for the amount of fighters that come through without amateur credentials also being less than stellar.

As Slip said, very few genuine teachers around nowadays. When Duran was plying his trade he was being taught foot movements and feints from the days of Bob Fitzsimmons. Nowadays it's peeps tryin' to emulate Floyds shoulder roll :patsch

Which considering the beasts he faced, Benton also bettered. Now there was a ****in' teacher.

Anyone remember Antonio Diaz every fight he tried to make it an inside war.

Billy Peacock was a bloody good contender, but just a contender nonetheless. 10 round non-title fight with Bantamweight champ' Raul Macias.

Why do you think there are so few good teachers any more?

Flea, thats exactly the kind of fighting I love. No clinches, mauls, pulling down on the back of your opponents head that litters fights these days. Slip, man I loved reading your overview of todays boxing, epic stuff. Will have another read later lol:good

Amazingly, 1980s Zimbabwean heavyweight boxing seems not to have made it onto recorded TV. I would imagine it had something to do with being a third world country recovering from decades of war OR the fact that any boxing coverage clashed with Dynasty.

Great to see the ref allowing the fight progress naturally last night, allowing a fair bit of inside action.

It was refreshing to see fighters being allowed to fight in and out of the clinch and in close quarters.
