JJ destroys Anderson anyway. I really don't think it would be close, and basically that is what White is saying here. Anderson is a better striker than Jones but so is Machida. JJ is bigger, stronger and a ****ing beast on the ground. Anderson should fight GSP as GSP is a better wrestler but is smaller so that would be interesting. Anderson may be the better fighter but V JJ he looks awful.
Maybe I'm in the minority on this but I think Silva-GSP is a bigger 'mismatch' than Silve-Jones. If Anderson Silva doesn't want to move up to 205lbs then that is his prerogative. He has earned the right to stay where he is and defend that title. But until someone utterly dominates and stops Silva I think people will have a hard time envisioning that it could actually happen. Chael Sonnen was winning but didn't have the firepower to finish AS. It could well be a case of being a bad matchup for Silva but we will not know for sure unless the fight happens. Silva has sublime skills and I don't anyone would say that about Machida or Rampage although they are both very high quality operators. But there is only one Anderson Silva.
I don't think it's as much of a mismatch. I think Anderson can struggle against good wrestlers and GSP's main weapon is his wrestling. I think if they were the same weight GSP wins a 5 rnd lay and pray decision. But with the size disadvantage his wrestling advantage is reduced. If Silva hits him he wins but GSP is quite elusive and as a WW coming up you'd think he'd be a lot lighter on his feet and harder to tag. I actually think it is a interesting fight and quite hard to call.
Yeah. Wrestling is a great equalizer for side discrepancies - its why the only two fighters to have consistent success across two weight classes (Henderson and Couture) were supremely awesome wrestlers. As the old pro-wrestling phrase go - he's not six foot six when he's laying on the ground. With GSP vs Silva, I can the route to victory for GSP. He takes down Silva and control's him. To me its a more interesting fight because its a perfect match of opposites. If you make Silva vs Jones you're basically asking for Silva to defeat someone who's like him but's bigger, younger and has better wrestling.
How much does Tron weigh? if Tron can make 205lbs then he has a very good chance against JBJ as his TDD is second to none... :think Plus he can do this... This content is protected Lynchburg
Also, I think White is poo-pooing the JJ V Anderson fight as he doesn't want to take any of the heat away from GSP V Anderson. I think that is their planned 'superfight' Imagine how gutting it would be if you make the GSP V Anderson fight happen and a section of the fans are actually dissapointed it's not AS V JJ. Nip that fight in the bud so ALL the attention is on AS V GSP. JJ V JDS (or whoever the HW equivolent is at the time) in 2013 could be the fight that 'tops' GSP V AS should it happen.
GSP will look tiny next to Anderson Silva and with Silva's long limbs will be kept at bay with an assortment of strikes until the merciful end. That should come as soon as Silva connects with either a solid punch or headkick. I just can't buy into the notion that this fight will be competitive. GSP doesn't have the greatest chin and Anderson Silva is the deadliest striker in the business. And he's naturally the much larger man.
But GSP is a world class wrestler with an amazing TD sucess rate and Anderson struggles with wrestlers. GSP will shoot, shoot and shoot again. I'm not saying Anderson is not the favourite in tis fight but it is much more intersting and competitive than Anderson fighting a guy that is a ****ing beast on the ground that manhandles genuine 205lb guys like they are little children.
It will be interesting to see what GSP decides to do when he returns from the knee surgery. Either try to get his belt back from either Diaz or Condit or the superfight with Silva. The good thing is that any of those three will make an exciting fight. GSP's fight with Shields was dreadfully boring so these matchups would provide a much needed respite from his last few sleep inducing performances.
GSP isn't interesting in moving up to middleweight. If he ever fought Silva it'd be a P4P catchweight fight.
Buy that time the Bones Jones applecart will have been upended by a revitalized and reengergized Rashad Evans anyway. Anway, Bones has well earned his proposed five month sabbatical from fighting. The winner of Davis-Evans will be a good fight for JJ.
Everyone wants to see this fight with the exception of SCARED Silva fans and that's the truth. If you're a Jon Jones fan, why wouldn't you want Silva's scalp on Jones' resume? That would totally bring it to another level. It certainly can't hurt. If you lose to Silva then you move on to beat everyone else at 205 and still be on your way to becoming an ATG. If you're a brave Silva fan...what do you have to lose? ONE loss to a bigger, much younger fighter isn't going to ruin Silva's legacy. A. Silva is my favorite fighter. I would love to see him take on Jones. Nothing to be afraid of. If Silva gets brutalized, so what?! It's fighting. It happens. Couture had the balls to fight a much bigger, much younger Lesnar. Randy nearly got his head smashed to pieces but does the loss to Lesnar damage Randy's reputation? **** No. If anything he gained more fans. Dan Henderson fought Fedor at heavyweight when Dan could've coaxed Fedor down to LHW. Hendo didn't give a ****. He went up to HW and got the job done. Granted Fedor isn't the same he was 10 yrs ago but nobody gave Hendo much of a chance at beating Fedor at the time. I love Silva but if he doesn't at least consider a fight with Bones, his intestinal fortitude will be in question. Oh, and another thing...when Machida was on top of the hill at 205, Dana sure as hell didn't mind telling the public he'd make Silva and Machida fight even if they don't like such idea. So why is Dana all of a sudden so protective and soft in regards to Anderson? What a damn shame.
I think its a business decision. He wants to ensure Silva stays with his 0 within the UFC, this keeps his stock high and another dominant champion dubbed the "Best Fighter ever" in a division that lacks that. he has Jones at Light Heavy, Silva at middleweight, GSP at welter. What a better dream team than to have those guys, all part of the UFC, THE "best organization ever", and they have the fighters to back it. I think from a marketing stand point it works as fans like super heroes, guys bigger than life, breaking records, dominating numbers, etc. While these guys keep winning and still make fights exciting (exception GSP, he has a whole country behind him), this keeps them relevant, generating buzz and hot amongst the general fans. They start losing or getting dominated, they lose some of that. Look at what happened to Machida, it went from "The Machida Era" to "Who can we feed Machida to".
Its smoke and mirrors.... Silva has to fight sonnen next year...surely...gsp can fight who he wants.... Am sure his fight with silva will then be made, superfight, no titles at stake, maybe batch weight....maybe in Canada... Silva wins...presumably...gsp career goes on at lower weight with enhanced kudos for fighting the spider, Silva fights bones, same deal, superfight, no titles, in end of year show in Brazil for his win lose or draw retirement fight..... Every one of these fighters, win, lose or draw, comes out of this with enhanced reputations UNLESS gsp derails the train at the start by beating anderson. Look at it like this... Anderson beats fights sonnen...massive fight, massive win if it comes off, massive revenue for ufc Gsp wins comeback fight, calls out spider.... Anderson and gsp fight in Canada, huge event, huge revenue Meantime, bones beats rashaad and maybe hendo if time....huge revenue fights Anderson fights bones end of December show in Rio, biggest fight ever, huge money.....Anderson or bones christened goat....huge revenue...
