Ricky Hatton on Khan/Peterson 'Best Man Won'

I really don't get why people are saying he looked past Peterson or whatever. At times I thought Khan looked better than he ever has but Lamont just fought that well for me. Whenever Khan was asked about it he would always say something like 'the big fights will never come if we don't win this fight and in good style' etc. which seems to be the right thing to be saying. I don't think you intend to but it takes away from Peterson's performance somewhat saying that Khan overlooked him.

 

His decision to fight Peterson in DC was more financially motivated, in my opinion. Not only would Peterson draw his own fans, but there was a healthy nest of Indian/Pakstani/Muslim people there for them to exploit, too.

But yeah, I hope it was a case of Khan being over-confident and looking past Peterson - who came in 20-30% better than what he normally is. However, my worry is that it's worse than that. We knew Khan's game was flawed, but **** me, I didn't know it was that bad.

 

It's something I picked up on but didn't really want to bring up, because of all the parties I think Roach should be given the least amount of the blame.

He might be slowing down on the mitts too, Pacquiao has looked a lesser fighter in his past two showings - though of course in the 2nd he fought a man who came to win rather than for a cuddle, and might be entering the inevitable decline after 60 fights.

The entire corner looked a bit chaotic too, Ariza to me seems to have too much influence on proceedings and Roach couldn't seem to get Amir's attention when he was trying to give instructions.

Might be time for Freddie to be a strategist rather than doing everything.

I don't believe he overlooked him mate, just think on his part he believed he would beat Peterson with ease (self belief) and then go to 147. His team are extremely arrogant including ODLH who behaved like the fishnet stocking wearing coked up **** he is. No class from him at all..

Peterson did the right things, i felt his punches were harder and that's what won him fight on my card. Khan didn't perform as badly as i first felt i think credit has to go to Peterson.

 

Ariza is under order from Roach to shout instructions and stuff. As mentioned, Roach is slow to speak, and when you only have a minute with your guy inbetween rounds, it's useful to have someone like Ariza help out.

I'd like to see Khan try and bring another coach to the table. Maybe inform Roach some of the things he's missing. I know he was a dick, but I quite liked the addition of Moorer. Because if I remember correctly, I think he played a role in coming up with that 'right hook, roll under' strategy for Pac against Hatton.

 

Moorer seemed good, but also creepy as **** dunno what's up with that guy..

 

:goodTbf, whether it was just to hype the fight or not, Roach said before hand it would be their hardest fight to date. I only had Khan winning cos of the bogus knockdown, but Peterson was putting a pretty bad beating on him in the middle rounds.

On the Roach issue: it seems unlikely Khan will get rid of him anytime soon, as I think he sees Roach as a sort of security blanket since the Prescott defeat, keeping him safe I didn't find him too hard to understand in the corner but for the likes of Pac, it must be damn-near impossible,

 

Yeah, I remember watching the 24-7s with a couple of girls, and they were immediately convinced that Moorer had a plan up his sleeve to take over Freddie's gym , and that Freddie should get rid of him. I was like, shut the **** up.

A few weeks later, and Moorer is sacked. atsch

Hatton Mayweather comes to mind as well with the referee .Maybe if Khan tried to hold a bit instead of push the ref would have split them anyway

 

Nah the ref kept saying 'fight Khan, fight out!'. He knew Khan was holding to stop/nullify Peterson's work. He only broke them a few times when neither man was working on inside which was rare.

 

There was just too big of a inexperience factor with Khan. I'm actually glad he didn't get the decision, because hopefully he can actually stop focusing on his damn strengths, and work on his inside game and defense, which are terrible. Thankfully, he acknowledged that in that interview he did today.
