WHat do you believe is hurting boxing the most

It's a very valid question. To ignore issues like this will be to the detriment of the sport.

Although I didn't vote as I think the worst thing about boxing is the multiple titles.

 

how there r like 2 or 3 fighters people only pay attention to. there r lot of fighters out there that r not getting exposure because they dont have the big promoters. free tv. ppv is fuggin up this sport. should be like baseball. let people see that shite for free

 

What you have in mind there is what's good for the promoters, advisers, etc. that get thier pockets lined because they've cultivated a product that has developed into a big short term (in the big picture) money grab.

Not contradictory at all really.

 

Promoters like Bob Arum, plain and simple.

 

PPV sales also measures fan interest. If that person was doing real harm to boxing, his PPV numbers sure are not indicative of that.

 

Well, to me the most serious problem is the proliferation of sanctioning bodies. IMO, they should get rid of ALL of them!

 

Promoter oriented (not making right fights) and too many belts and classes

 

bringing in a lot of ppvs so people can watch you get your AZZ kicked by a 40 year old lightweight when you're universally considered the second best fighter of this era, but then you go rob the lightweight of his victory to highlight to the average person how much bull**** in involved in boxing

 

Those PPV numbers are only indicative, again, to the short term financial blast that team is currently having.

Or do you feel it's a good thing that through media hype etc 1.3 mil paid to watch said fighter against Mosely?

Be honest, those numbers indicate a "buzz" in the public interest. IMO, they wont stay interested when they get to watch "business" fights.

 

People are so focused on padding a guys record that they avoid giving them a good fight. They don't realize that people want to see a big name, but they want to see them in a good fight. Nobody wants to watch Manny beat up a guy that isn't in his league.

And what about the 1.3 that paid to see the Mosely fight? I'm sure "new fans" went away from that shouting from the roof tops that boxing is where it's at.

Those same short term financial blasts by other PPV kings of the past were used as a gauge of boxing's popularity in their respective eras. Just as in any sport, it's superstars carry the sport on their backs. Without the superstars, you only have hardcore fans as your audience. It's always the casual mainstream fans that bring money and dictate a sports true popularity. Agaian I ask, how is a true superstar of boxing who carries himself with great class hurting boxing, a sport filled with lowlife individuals on every level?

 

If ESB is any guage of the sport's fanbase....

My vote goes to the stupid fans.
