How Much Will Carl Froch's Victory Over Andre Dirrell Help Froch Against Andre Ward?

In Dirrell, Froch faced a slick, quick fighter who some people may feel is a similar opponent to Ward.

One difference between Dirrell and Ward is that Dirrell is a southpaw, whereas Ward fights out of an orthodox stance.

Another difference between Dirrell and Ward is that Dirrell has 4 more inches of reach (75") than does Ward (71").

Dirrell (6'2") is 2" taller than Ward.

Many observers would consider Ward a superior infighter to Dirrell.

Dirrell gave Froch all kinds of problems with his speed and movement. Froch also had to deal with a good amount of clinching and similar tactics from Dirrell.

Given that some people feel that Ward has a kind of mauling style, do you think Froch will be helped by his previous encounter against, and victory over, Andre Dirrell?

Can Froch repeat the success he found against Andre Dirrell, or will Ward be too much for him?

I can't see Ward literally running away like Dirrell did,but thery are both slick elusive fighters without much power so it may help a bit

 

Ward is a switch hitter just like Dirrell. Ward fought the majority of the fight against Kessler as a South Paw.


Dirrell beat Froch. Ward will beat Froch even easier. Whereas Dirrell has little to no inside game, Ward is a patented inside fighter who can fight on the outside just as effectively.

Froch struggles against boxers. He got clubbed repeatedly by a slow slugger like Glen Johnson.

I think Froch having come up against Dirrell will help him against Ward, but Ward and Dirrell don't have exactly the same style and one is a southpaw.

 

probably not much, as froch barely touched dirrell in their fight. ward's going to make froch look horrible. he'll nullify everything froch does and beat him decisively, with froch bitching and complaining the whole time.

I pick Ward over Froch as well. Hopefully, it will be a decent fight.

 

It will, but he need to at least perform 10 times better than the Dirrell fight. And Ward is not *****, so he won't run away scared of the Cobra, so there is more possibility that Froch is gonna connect a clean shot on S.O.G

I don't think it will help much because Ward spends so much more time in the pocket than Dirrell.

People are framing this bout as Froch's offense versus Ward's defense, but I think the pivot point is whether Froch can handle Ward's infighting and shorter, accurate punches.

Froch isn't going to win if he gets defensive, as he doesn't have the one-punch countering ability to really hurt Andre, imo. He has to come forward, and the way to do that will be to stymie Ward's offense.

I think it will be a good fight with Ward taking a close, relatively clear 7-5 decision.

 

Ward and Dirrell are completely different. Ward is a dirty boxer and Dirrell is a track athlete. Can't see the similarity.

Not much. For one, I though Froch lost the Dirrell fight. And secondly, Dirrell and Ward are world's apart. Dirrell is a freak athlete with some of the fastest hands ever at the weight, but he lacks the skills, fundamentals, and versatility of Ward. Froch is going to get different looks with Ward, and unlike Dirrell, he's going to have to cope with some grappling, roughhousing, and infighting ability.

These fights are going to be worlds apart. I like Ward here and I think it'll be his shining moment and career-best performance.
