Well when there is to much friction the then the skin kinda ripps apart or if you use a sharp object like your elbow then it works kinda like a knife
So they get busted up a bit. It's a contact sport. It would be good for TV if they could clean the old blood off the octagon mat though. It looks really tacky.
That cut doesnt look as bad as what's in the picture? :think Dare i say it has it been photoshopped? As there's no way if the gash was that deep Reid would have been able to stand let alone continue? A contusion/cut like that would have caused considerable pain.
Some dude that trained with Reid said: Lol, I thought I posted on this thread the monday after the fight? Oh well... Alex was back at training on monday - the cut looks sooo much worse than it is. It was only 1cm long and was resolved with only 6 stitches. Not too bad then, and he'll definately be back at the next one! http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f61/alex-reid-shin-pics-562870/index3.html
Looks like i may be right.. That has to be a photoshop... As the dark portion runs all the way down to his ankle indicating a cut. But your picture only shows blood on his shin and a small cut at the height of the shin. Funny as iv seen that picture before and always thought it had to be fake. Looks like it probably is...
I thought it was fake when I saw the picture, but if you look at the video at around the 43 sec mark it doesn't look that far off. As you said, the cut is no where near as large as the darker area. I think that may just be where the flow is most concentrated combined with the shadow from his body under overhead lighting.
Actually its not a fake photo i also thought so at first but then i looked at the fight and as rek said if you look around :43 you see the blood
