I can see Dawson beating him.

    Footwork would be important.

Which fighter at 168/175 got that kind of footwork though?

On you side note, I think Froch realised he wasnt prepared for what Ward brang on fight night early on. The old school Froch liked to slug it out at mid range knowing deep well that he has the chin and conditioning to last the distance, Ward just didnt give him that kind of room.

So can I. A focused Dawson would be very tough for Ward.

I was just thinking about possible opponents that could give Ward trouble, im not the biggest Chad fan by any stretch but I agree with you

See my earlier post, I think Chad has the style to pull exactly that off

Chad Dawson wasnt able to handle Pascal at times.

There's no disputing Ward's control of the SMW division when all suggestions to beat him are in the weight above

Agreed I the only style I can think of that could beat Ward's and Mayweather's is a RJJ-esque style which is very special and once in a lifetime itself

I think it will take an unorthodox guy with power.

If Ward is Vernon Forrest, it will take a guy kind of like Ricardo Mayorga to throw Ward off his game plan (as Ward is stellar when it comes to sticking with a plan and executing).

    BUT....it can't be a guy who's too predictable.

I see no on from 175 down that fits the bill.

Pascal with improved stamina then. I see it the same way but being physically stronger than Ward is also a must aswell.

I always felt Andre Dirrell would trouble Ward's its very hard to look good against not saying he would win though.

Out-box from a distance. Someone like Dirrell might have the style and ability to do it on a theoretical level. Unfortunately he's too mentally weak to win. You can beat him in that middle range, too. If you can punch and box well you'd have a chance. You just have to be adept on the inside, or have good movement to be able to keep it on the inside.

You will need a great chin, an even greater engine and to be able to outwork him by throwing 100 punches a round.

    Joe Calzaghe.

I'm talking about the current Ward here, but Calzaghe at his best beats this Ward in a close but clear fight. Ward may go on to the be the better fighter, and no doubt in my mind he will have the better career/resume when all is said and done but Joe takes it.

Now that you mention it, I guess Pascal does kind of fit the bill.

Pascal's got stamina issues though, so if he can't get to Ward early, I think his chances get considerably worse as the rounds progress.

    Pretty much.

He fits all of the requirements except for the stamina to compete for all 12.

    Physically stronger
    Quick
    Great chin
    Unpredictable
    Good reflexes
    Power
