His best win and practically his only good win and Ward has already duplicated the result. Mitchell was ready for the scrap yard when Joe faced him like every other hand picked opponent he faced. Guys like Reid and Lacy are typical run of the mill SMW's, typical of the weak division Calzaghe hid out in. Calzaghe is basicly at the same level as a guy like Danny Green. A good titlist but never good enough to make it into the history books. It's really disrespectful to Ward's abilities to compare him with a fighter like Calzaghe.

 

No i only deal in facts, Calzaghe beat multiple champions at the weight Froch didnt, it was obvious that Ward was going to outclass Froch [just like Calzaghe would have] as Froch is limited, Froch is not elite level, Ward out classed him, Kessler also beat him by a wide UD, obviously Calzaghe would outclass Froch [infact Calzaghe would beat Froch even now after being retired for 3 years], Bute would beat Froch, Taylor was beating Froch when he got knocked out with seconds to go, Direll would have beaten Froch in a venue other than Nottingham.
Froch is a level below Calzaghe, Ward and Kessler.

 

A few things jumped out for me;

1. Both fighters were scrappy
2. Ward is a tecnical boxer, but he was throwing wide scrappy arm punches at times. His left hand (left hook) was the only real effective punch
3. I'm not sold on his style, he is a little boring. Great ring generalship though
4. Froch was so slow I could have out sped him
5. Comparisons and talks of him being up there in the P4P are slighly premature. He's top 10 but he is no where near Pac man or Floyd right now.

Over all I was a little dissapointed in the final, the quality of boxing was not what I hoped. But thats what Froch brings. Calzaghe would have schooled him much worse IMO.

Calzaghe is the greatest smw, ever nothing will change that. He also does not ram people with his head. Prime Joe would beat ward or Bute on points, too fast, too good.

Calzaghe beat prime Reid, Mitchell, Brewer
Calzaghe beat Sheika who beat a lot younger version of Glen Johnson that Froch did
Calzaghe beat Hopkins who was the linear light heavyweight champ

Ward Headbutted Kessler
Beat up on Allan Green
Struggled with Bika
Struggled with Abraham for the first few rounfs
Did a decent job against Froch

So far Calzahge still wins hand to hand

Agree with you there. Ive grown to respect Froch recently (over the course of the ss) & imo his last 6-7 fights are as good a resume as is out there at the moment however despite respecting his balls & heart approach his skills at the very top level are found wanting a bit like Hatton actually. I think a prime JC would outwork Ward and take a close decision but thats all "what ifs" & as a boxing fan I can say I have alot of respect for Ward & I hope he goes on to dominate as he deserves too.

got to give ward some credit where its due, he's done everything asked of him in a weak 168 era, he's shown a good versatility to his boxing.

however, its way too early to compare him with calzaghe, ward could go on to lose his next 2 fights and then the opening post would look even more laughable than it does already. best to assess ward 5 years from now when he has fought different styles like dirrell, bute, degale etc, unified the division and fought away from home.

the opening post was the equivalent of braindead cum swiller claiming that mike tyson was greater than muhammad ali after he had beat tony tucker.

you have to let fighters earn their greatness over time and not throw it at them just because your a fanboy of ward and hate the current greatest supermid of all time because he beat your idol bernard hopkins.
