i believe that was one of the stipulations for pat burns to agree to train taylor was that he'd fight at md. if pat burns is still the one training him in his comeback.

I understand your respect of jermain taylor, he's totally worthy of it, but he's never been a serious mover, nor has he ever been a tremendous boxer. he has holes in his game that were initially exposed by kelly pavlik. if guys who weren't boxers could expose him then it's not a stretch to say martinez wont be able to do the same, maybe not knock him out but beat him. unless jermain has actually improved his 12 round fight stamina and become a good boxer then martinez can beat him

I can't remember, was the seeding for Group Stage 1 random?

If not, here's an interesting what-if: (and yeah, the S6 is full of them)

Taylor hangs on the extra fifteen seconds and wins a split decision over Froch, and is WBC champ heading into the tournament.

Maybe he draws somebody besides Abraham in the first round. Maybe one of the Andres. Maybe with his clout as the former MW kind and reigning WBC champ, he could get Ward out of Oakland. He definitely gets Dirrell out of Michigan. Maybe he's got a good chance to get the benefit of the doubt over those guys if it's at all close in Arkansas or Tennessee. :think

(meanwhile Froch is not the undefeated WBC champ, and thereby doesn't have the clout to insist that Dirrell or whoever else come over to his backyard)

Maybe he even gets to meet a replacement like Bika, Green or Johnson (since even re-shuffling the deck doesn't guarantee there won't be some craziness with this group, with someone or the other pulling out at some point...)

Maybe instead of being bounced in embarrassing fashion in the tournament opener, maybe he makes it to the finals. :think

    Posted by: Showtime on 11/3/2011.

On Friday, Dec. 30, former undisputed 160-pound world champion Jermain Taylor returns to the ring and the middleweight division when he faces 24-year-old Jesse “Beast” Nicklow of Baltimore, Md., in the main event of a special edition of ShoBox: The New Generation, live at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).

:nod His comeback is at middleweight (as it was when previously scheduled earlier this year).

There have been whisperings about Pavlik dropping back down for a while now, since his power with the extra weight has failed to inspire awe (or register a knockout, having gone the distance the three times he's come in above MW since emerging as a contender: UD12 win over Taylor in the rematch, UD12 loss to Hopkins, MD10 win over Lopez...)

It's questionable whether he can still comfortably make it, but the rumors have been persistent enough (and often parroted by his diehard fans, some with insider ties) that there could be something to them - especially if his prior difficulties had to do with certain...appetites.

I've heard those whispers as well.

The move out west could help........maybe.

    Food for thought.

True, he had some things going against him - but I'd be lying to say that Abraham didn't have a wide enough lead on my card by the end that the KO was just academic.

Now, that one clown who had Taylor losing to Froch at the time of the stoppage - that was some bull****. That ought to have been a UD if he survived.

yeah. This is pretty much what the plan was all along, and people are having fits over him "unretiring" and just showing how little attention they pay.

He never retired. After the KO loss to Abraham, he couldn't have been any more clear: he was taking some time off to get his health in order and figure out his next move - and given how poorly SMW worked out for him, it was pretty clear the destination was 160 if he could still make it comfortably. (despite, if memory serves, being the one who actually asked for the 166lb catchweight in the Pavlik rematch)

It's crazy how thin the line can be, I hadn't really thought about this scenario prior to you bringing it up, but it's interesting.

Firstly, I had the Spinks fight a draw. And Spinks was nowhere near as good as Martinez.

Second of all, you DO realize those fights were 6-7 years ago right?

Brain dead fellow that you are.

No I had no idea, wow I feel like a dummy, thanks for enlightening me. So you are saying you believe Martinez KO's Jermain or are you saying he outboxes him...just to clarify?

Saying this current JT even has a chance against Sergio is laughable.

That is a brutal KO right now.
