joe was good, but never wanted to find out how good he was - said it before and i'll say it again.

its much easier to look good against sub-standard opponents than it is to go fight a prime hopkins or jones...which he consciously never wanted to do despite calling them out repeadetly but doing sweet FA about it.

truth is, joe doesn't deserve a bag full of cudos

    Calzaghe would dominate him.

Fair play , I disagree with the outcome but at least you make a good argument as a pose to some of the other ****ing herbets on here....:good
I personally think JC's smothering workrate would shade him a points decision.......A very close one though

Calzaghe decision. Bad style match-up for Ward.

Calzaghe beat a better version of kessler than the one ward faced though

Calzaghe would be hopelessly outclassed by a prime technician such as Ward. It wouldn't be a close fight at all. Calzaghe's handspeed and workrate would not be anywhere near enough to be competitive with a guy who has speed, defence, skills and versatility like Ward. Ward would thrash him on the inside and outslick him on the outside. Ward is a different class.

He beat Kessler more easily because Kessler had...

    1. Aged.
    2. Had an existing eye injury.
    3. Was therefore no longer as good as the version that Calzaghe beat.

Hopkins may have been 43yrs old but...

    1. Has since gone on to record some very impressive victories
    2. is extremely fit for his age
    3. Was fighting at home against Calzaghe with a ref who didnt care too much when he fouled.

You argue that Bika is more polished...

    1. Yet you could argue he was older, since that was part of your arguement against Joe's victory against Bhop.

Calzaghe would have dominated guys like Froch, Abraham (Former middleweight), Green (weight drained) and Miranda (Former middleweight). Ward's best victory has to be a prime, focused Froch and Calzaghe would win that with relative ease. No doubt Calzaghe has a weak resume but its not as bad as some people try and make out.

Calzaghe UD Ward in a close fight.

Ward is far too young and prime for Slappy to take on. When Ward hits 40, this will be a reasonable debate.

Calzaghe just barely beat Hopkins, and did so almost entirely because Hopkins just didn't have the stamina at his age to continue to keep up the workrate.

Ward, in many respects, is what Hopkins would have been if he took up boxing as a child. The 27 year old Ward reminds me a lot of a prime Hopkins.

I see a fight between Joe and Ward being very similar to Joe vs. Hopkins, except Ward's 27 year old stamina would hold up much better throughout.

I see a 116-112 split or majority decision for Ward where some people will complain that Joe should have won on sheer aggressiveness and workrate.

Calzaghe wins, Ward couldn`t keep the pace, he`d be outlanded in almost every round.
