Heavweight scrap over 12 rounds. Who takes it?:bbb This content is protected vs This content is protected
This would be a very very tough fight for Charles - Gene was a masterful boxer - a beautiful boxer - with one of the very best left jabs in history as far as I'm concerned - he'd keep it at range and try to time Ez with that rapier jab -I think Ez would be the one who'd have to work harder - Ez was boxing pretty much neck and neck with Jersey Joe and this also would be a purists dream with not much between them - I think Gene would actually be the better boxer in there and would be more likely to control things although I guess Ez would be the one using the more pressure and come forward variety so he maybe that bit busier as long as he doesn't get pinned with that Tunney jab too much - Tunney doesn't tend to use much other than the one-two so edge goes to Charles but not by much - Tunney probably wins one out of three in a series
Too close to call. I feel Ezz was very very underated , once he got going at LH he nearly un beatable. If he was fighting at cruiser today I cant see anyone beating him going back to De Leone. I think he beat Arch 3 times two by ko. that in itself says enough. .
Just to say where i am. I think its a very close one but i think Tunney could hustle his way to a UD with some movement. I think this fight would be amazing.
Tunney was the smarter fighter, and the more durable fighter. He knew when to box, when to slug, and when to in-fight. Charles to me had to struggle a tad too much vs non-elite level opponents because his thinking and styles were a bit more fan friendly. I would go with Tunney here, as he would use footwork and an intercepting jab and cross to out land and outwit Charles. If the fight was a war, Tunney was the harder / more durable guy.
Charles takes a close fight at heavyweight but has an easier night at 175lb.there aren't many better fighters than charles at any weight
I'll take Tunney in this one if they're fighting as HW's. Gene had excellent footwork and was fast on his feet. Combine that with his durability and underrated power (and ring smarts too) and I see a decision win for Tunney. Charles might very well be the best LHW of all time but as a HW he wasn't as dominant a force. Still excellent but not as great as he was at LHW. I think Gene's mobility is the difference in this one.
