Does Duran do better when he is in better shape and in peak welterweight condition?

I would say so. I don't see Benitez setting the pace as easily.

    Duran UD

Roberto could've been an ATG welterweight if he so chose, but at that particular time he was beginning to tire of the commitment. He still has one of the greatest single wins in the history of boxing, welterweight or otherwise which contradicts the previous statement, really. Palomino was also a very good win on his brief WW resume.

Leonard lost to Duran more than Duran beat Leonard. Benitez would beat Duran.

So by losing to duran, we can categorically agree that duran beat leonard since the two are one and the same.

So on that basis duran would beat benitez.

I've never understood the two separate groups. One of them makes excuses for the second fight, the other claims one didn't fight his fight in the first. I respect the bloody hell out of both of them as fighters equally. Others should do the same.

Exactly, in the first we saw duran outbox the quicker and bigger leonard. In the return we saw leonard make the iron willed duran say no mas. Both fighters are clear choices for any atg list.

Undeniably two of the greatest fighters of the last half century, as well. Duran is all but a lock for Top 10, all-time. Leonard - with only 40 professional fights - makes a damn good case for the same. This is simply unbelievable. I feel sorry for people who have to jock sniff one while totally shitcanning the other and further, ignoring and denying their greatness in other areas that aren't even related to their boy.

EDIT: Of course, when I say the last half century I'm not talking about Top 25 great. I mean that place up there that some have said gets cold and lonely.

I see Benitez causing bucketloads of problems for even this version of Duran. Duran would never have beaten Benitez at 154, at 147 it's interesting.
