Although I disagree with your other post about Gołota being an A-level talent, but not A-level fighter.

Gołota fought during one of the toughest, and most competitive and stacked eras in HW boxing, and he had great success. Beating the snot our of Bowe 2 times, then Grant, and then the 2 fights with Byrd and Ruiz in which he got jobbed. IMO that is enough to qualify as an A-level fighter. Especially by todays standards.

I must agree with Rums. Golota beat the crap out of Bowe in both fights. but remember, in the end he LOST the fights due to mental problems. If Golota didnt have such mental issues, he would have stopped Bowe in that first fight and there would never of been a rematch. That's why I think the assessment of Golota being an A-level talent but a B-level fighter is spot on.

And if Golota were an A-level fighter he wouldnt have humiliated himself twice getting bombed in less than a round by Brewster and Lewis.

As for the Byrd and Ruiz fights, I had him winning both. But he was already past his prime physically. A prime Golota would have knocked both Byrd and Ruiz out, this I am sure of! Actually, I would have a prime Golota beating Byrd by a decisive decision and stopping Ruiz by the 8th.

Yes I've seen this one, as well as many (if not all) of his pre-Nicholson fights that are on youtube. I really enjoy watching these early fights when Golota was in his twenties. So fast for a such a big guy and very aggressive. Back then he swarmed his opponents. After the Bowe fights he really lost his aggression.

Have you guys seen the interview with Golota on Conan O'brian show just after the Bowe fights? I have it on vhs but have been meaning to post it on the Golota Express for years. I'll get around to it!

It was pretty funny though Golota was nervous like usual. It was right after the first Bowe fight. They were talking about the riot and Conan grilled Golota a bit on hitting Bowe in the balls but Golota made light of it and said Bowe was faking not being able to get up after getting hit low. Then Conan showed a clip of Golota biting Sampson Pouha. At the end Conan said something like "Do me a favor, say hasta la vista baby." And Golota instead gave an Ivan Drago "I must break you."

Just read Golota told Polish press he is currently sparring in the gym and plans to have a tune up fight pretty soon then hopefully a top ten opponent after. He said his left hand is working properly with no issues.

    :patsch

Golota is 44 years old. I'm starting to think he's delusional.

    no, the guy is done

he's had his opportunities against Lewis, Grant, past-prime Tyon

he had HUGE talent, but when it most mattered he couldn't cope with the pressure

that's why he'll always be known as the guy who sent Bowe into retirement, instead of the guy who should have been a HW champion at least twice in his career

I agree he should have been awarded the belts in both fights (even though I had him winning against Ruiz I was very disappointed in his performance against that hugging piece of ****). But ultimately that's not what he will be remembered for by the boxing community. He'll be remembered as a talented fighter who was too big of a nutjob to hold his composure and win big fights. That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

Of course his die hard fans will remember him as the uncrowned champion but most boxing fans in general won't.
