It's scandalous. The board should specify the number of officials required for a particular show and charge the promoter accordingly. The officials should receive hotel allowances as necessary, together with meals. I've nothing against promoters, fighters and officials mixing, but when the promoter is paying their wages it does leave their actions open to question. It doesn't take a genius to come up with a list of fights that had questionable cards, even if scoring is subjective and open to interpretation. I wouldn't want my integrity being placed into question because of a technicality such as this.
He does have a point though. No one gives Sky quite the same amount of **** for doing an awful job the last few years. Some of the domestic fights and crap like Prizefighter are utterly shameful.
It is, do the away fighters know this? Im surprised any fighter fights on an away card if they do, unless your a good puncher and have a serious chance of knocking the fella out, I would not touch a fight on another promotions card.
surely, completely neuteral referees and judges, paid by a seperate body and unconnected to the promotion, would make a big difference in levelling the playing field?
Commonwealth fights with britsh judges and referees always confused me. Actually, how many commonwealth fights are there outside britain?
The judges/ref being paid by promoters isn't just a British thing, it happens everywhere. You hear stories in the US about how promoters put judges up in 5 star hotels and all that. It really shouldn't be happening - commisions/sanctioning bodies should be paying for judges from the fees they receive.
well, there are currently 2 commenwealth champions from outside the uk: http://commboxing.com/champions.html
Does anyone know what was the outcome of that? I know the referee Mark Green was reprimanded over it, was a rematch called for?
