How does Holyfield do against Liston´s opponents in your oponion ?
Holyfield vs Patterson twice, Cleveland Williams, Zora Folley, Eddie Machen, Ali twice and the others ???

Beats everyone but Ali and might even take a close one, one of three with Ali in a classic trilogy. Boom. I said it. So what? He also probably gets into a completely unnecessary war with Williams until Williams' chin lets him down. :conf The Patterson fights would be great but Holy would ultimately get the better of my man, Floyd. Gentleman VS fake gentleman=fake gentleman coming out ahead.....See? See what I did there? Not very funny or clever, but I managed to allude to his headbutts. Heh. ...****, I'm tired.

Patterson-Holyfield is not a forgone conclusion at all.

Best for best, it's not. But, the version that faced Liston...I mean, let's face it. Both men were in their nineties. Liston was, at that point, the oldest fighter to challenge for a title, and Patterson had gone from the youngest to get the title to the oldest in a very short time. It was all on Legendary Nights. You should watch that series. Very informative, that. Apparently, Patterson was ducking Aaron Pryor, at that time, also.

yeah, bar Ali and Patterson...Evander should beat them all but wouldn't be nearly as dominant. He would struggle, get knocked down a few times, and do lots of unncessary brawling.

Maybe by the time of the Patterson fight, Evander will be all roided up and having heart problems...maybe he would be stopped by Ali while fighting with hepatits? Throw out his shoulder taking a wild swing? These things should be considered.

evander would be probably 185 lbs in liston's time, without roids and hgh.
still a great boxer, probably beats all(not as dominant) except ali,but he would have a hard time with williams and patterson...

with the sole exception of Muhammad Ali, i don't see Evander losing to any of them... And even the version of Cassius Clay who Liston fought with only 19 fights and close calls against cooper and Jones is not a win totally out of Holy's reach as Muhammad really didn't peak until more like 1966.

Yeah, I agree with that.....Holyfield would be a very good challenge for Ali.....and the rematch would be tougher, I don´t have a doubt...

Holyfield lost to michael moorer...he could easily drop one on an off night to Zora Folley and Eddie Machen. He was also nearly blasted out by Bert Cooper. He better watch out vs Big Cat Williams. Holyfield was very inconsistent. Patterson-Holyfield is a pretty close fight.

To clearify, I think a "peak" Ali outboxes Evander to a convincing decision. But I don't think he was totally developed in the early 60's and Holyfield would have made a more formidable test than an aged Liston, Cooper our Doug Jones.

Holyfield was fighting with a bum shoulder and a heart condition, yet still made it a close fight... he fought Moorer years later when in better shape and beat him down badly.. Can't really use that loss as a gauge for how he'd do in fantasy fights.

Evander has the skills to beat them all. Patterson and Ali out-box him though over 15 rounds. It wouldn't surprise me if the prime version of Cleveland Williams before his gut was blasted out gives Evander the roughest evening of all mentioned in this thread.

Very true, and peak-peak I pick him over everyone but Ali (though I think Patterson would be close and very entertaining), but Q's point is valid. Imagine Holyfield fighting to Liston's schedule? He could have an off night against some of the better guys, as he did in his actual career.

I wonder how old Holyfield would have done against Clarke and Martin?
