Collins I think would have had the pressure to hurt Froch too much. I think they both fought the best they could but I think the division was tougher when Collins was round.
Got to go with Collins,be a good fight and a lot of close rounds but I think it would be Collins who had that bit more in the last few rounds and he would pull out a close decision.
In the balance this one, two tough mother****ers. Almost too close to call but ill stick my neck out and say Froch on points. Slightly more in his locker. Both men end up bruised to **** and a rematch on the cards.
I see it the other way but would be a great fight.Closest we get is Froch v Kess 2,sooner they get that sorted the better.
Collins looked to have beaten both Reggie Johnson and Sumbu Kalambay, probably both better than Andre Ward. That Collins was sharper than the one we saw against Eubank and Benn. Collins in an awkward affair to frequently land, and beat Carl.
Have you a link to Kalambay saying he lost ? I remember the fights and don't remember thinking he was robbed. I met Colllins at work last year, we chatted about his career , he claimed Kalambay was the most awkward opponent he fought and the one he would least want to fight again. He certainly never said he felt robbed. He did feel RJJ ducked him. He also did not think much of Haye , saying he saw him bottle it in a street fight. To say he clearly beat Johnson is not true, i know a lot of people felt it could have gone for Collins but just as many felt it was correct, it just depends on the styles you prefer. I prefer the slicker Johnson and Kalambay. But if you can provide a link to Kalambay saying he lost to him i would be interested. Boxing news scored both fights against him. His best performance at middleweight was against McCallum.
Collins acquitted himself well against Johnson, Kalambay and even Mike McCallum. Wasn't beaten 'clearly'. I haven't seen those fights for ages, but IIRC i had Johnson slightly edging it, although i might've also had a draw. Had Kalambay beating him in a close fight and McCallum winning by at least 4 rounds in a fight that Collins got the tactics wrong early on.
Collins said many times he felt he was robbed against both Reggie and Kalambay. It's clear with the body language after the fight that Kalambay thought he'd definitely lost to Collins, and it was in the commentary of one of Collins's low-profile fights in the UK where they said even Kalambay thought he'd lost it. You're right in saying that Reggie was slick back then, slicker than a greaseball would be more precise though. It was a suprising performance from Collins, landing a short perfectly timed sneaky overhand right counter-punch on a frequent basis. Going to dig out my scorecard...
OK. I had Collins streets ahead after seven, then Reggie won three in a row and Collins clearly won the last two.
