It's because he beat a prime Kessler who beat Froch quite some time ago.
Then we find out his eyes are messed up after the Ward fight.

Hopkins alone on Calzaghe's resume is a better fighter than almost anyone on whoever is fighting right now.

 

Slappy is nowhere near as good as his fans make him out to be; nor as bad as his detractors picture him either. Hopkins was old as hell when Slappy fought him. A shot, glass jawed RJJ went all 12 rounds with him. It's not like Slappy faced any great challenges in his career.

A prime Kessler is still not as fast and versatile as Ward. That's Slappy's best win. Its a good win. Solid, but not otherworldly. His resume is paper thin past that.

And here comes a Failey boxrec blitz.....

Fighting a mandatory is a very real test, which is why there are so few dominating champs around. Ward could have told you that.

 

He's not as bad as some of his detractors make him out to be, I've plainly stated that. Mandatory or no mandatory, the best fighters of his era are not on his resume until after their 40th birthdays.

There's nobody he faced that can compare to Ward; young, fast, athletic, versatile, prime. Once again, he wins a hypothetical matchup simply because he never had a real matchup of this caliber.

Does Ward beat Calzaghe? at this moment in time no. Really believe JC style is all wrong for Ward. Bags of speed, punch volume, constantly varying tactics mid fight and he has a pretty decent inside game when needed. At the moment Ward seems to take these rests mid rounds. Maybe because he feels he can as he’s so far ahead on the cards, but that would be suicide against someone like JC.That being said i think it is unfair to judge Ward right now. Maybe another 10-15 fights down the line will give us a better idea how he would cope with JC, but it is far too early and he may not have reached his prime yet.Even though he has looked excellent in the past few fights my concern is his lack of KO power. In his last 8 fights, 7 of them have gone to the cards (one 11 RD TD). Like every top fighter he is going to have a couple of off days, and if that happens against an opponent who can match him for workrate, and keep it close he may find himself on the other side of a decision if he cannot find that KO.Ward might want to take an easy defense next before looking to fight Bute/Hopkins next year.

 

troll if you think Joe would beat him ok, but dont be a moron claiming Joe would stop Ward with his slaps, and Joe went down against totally shot RJJ so please STFU! Ward is still young and will be more respected than Joe when he retires, Ward had only 25 fights and if you compare who he beat in his first 25 to who Joe beat Andre is much better!
Add to this Olympic gold medal, and fact that he did good in amateur rankings, not like Joe only in Britain. Ward could not have done more than he did by now.
