He can pedal faster than some other dudes. Cars were invented to make people get from A to B faster than on 2 wheels.

Sorry for my ignorance, but if he didn't win cyclings ultimate prize (i'm guessing that's what the Tour de France is) then what did he win? Did he get what was like a WBU equivalent?

Ask Flea he knows all about it and the context of what he achieved. He seems to think it is a very big deal so will take his word for it.

The problem I've got is the people that voted for him because they get the impression that he's the best candidate. As a casual sport fan I think I have good knowledge about a lot of different sports but freely admit that I know **** all what makes Cavendish stand out - all I know is that he's highly regarded within cycling. That seems to be good enough reason for the general public to vote for him. He may well be the best candidate but most people won't really know why.

From what I can gather. Basically Cavendish is the best road sprint cyclist on the planet. He has won the most stages of the Tour De France of an Brit and could go on to be the biggest winner of stages ever which would be a massive achievement.

Long story short there is nobody close to him in road sprint cycling atm and he could be the best ever.........I think

We need Leo Messi to explain fully.

He's the current world champion and tour de France green jersey winner and world number 1 sprinter. Pretty much the usain bolt of cycling.

Froch would clearly win a personality competition. A footballer could never win it. Froch has more personality than every player in the EPL combined. Footballers need to start promoting matches and saying things to the media to sell PPVs

I'm surprised to see so much fuss still gets made over this award to be honest. To me it seemed to pass its sell by date years ago, clearly not.

It's a team sport. Can't do anything without his teammates who all work for him to win the stages. He always aknowledges the work of his teammates. Like most sports he knows he can't win without them.

From what I understand being in a cycling team affects where you finish about the same as the team in a Formula 1 race. Is this fair?

What do you mean 'team sport'?

I've never seen those guys riding with anyone. Every sport is a team sport the way you've described it.

That Bolt comparison is starting to go way off...;)

    p,s. I'm dumbing it down intentionally...:yep
