    Riders don't enter the races as individuals, they enter as a team. The team will usually have 1 or 2 main guys who the whole team is pulling for. Basically he is either the guy who can win the grand tours, like a lance Armstrong or a guy who can win stages and win Sprint jerseys and stage races like mark cavendish.
    In cavendishs case his whole team is working all day to keep him sheltered from the wind, giving him water, bringing him back to the peleton if he falls behind and then finally when it comes to a Sprint finish its their job to position him in the perfect position for the very final 100 or 200m Sprint to the line. They do this by taking turns on the front of the bunch busting their balls to keep the speed up then one by one they drop off and at the last moment release cav for the Sprint to the line. Which he usually wins. His HTC team from last year were awesome at it and is a very spectacular sporting spectacle when u know what ur looking at.

    Thing is though, cycling is massive in a lot of countries, not so much in the UK, but he is a superstar and the very best at what he does. With the Tour de France, it's broken down into smaller competitions. 'the king of the mountains' 'time trialist's and 'sprints' the final yellow jersey winner is an all rounder who may win none of the sprints or mountain stages etc.

    But I know the names of Miguel Indurain, Lemond, Merx, Armstrong etc though... In a few years you can show me a photo of Cavendish and I will have forgotten who he was. Winning the tour de france multiple times will get you crossover recognition if you're a road cyclist. Regardless of what die hards think, the general public will think more of him if he won the whole tour.

    How many stages are there and how many eefing different coloured jerseys? lol.

    If there's so many stages, you're telling me that this guy only wins one? that's ****!

    That's like a guy winning and being the best in one event of the decathlon and being shite at the rest. This guy is no better than Dean Macey (sorry cycling fans).

    Usually around 22.

    There are flat stages for the sprinters and mountain stages for the climbers.

    Each day the time you finish in gets added to the next day and so on.

    Cav wins lots of single days but drops 30mins+ on the mountain stages so comes no where overall.

    It's even worse then i thought, mate. Not even Dean Macey standard (my apologies to Deano). He's the guy that use to beat Daley Thompson at the 100m and then come last overall. :lol:

    :lol::rofl:patsch

    Not really. There are two main jerseys. The yellow for overall time and the green for the sprinters. He won 5 stages this year out of 21 I think and 6 last year. Plus the World Championships, not bad going.
