I didn't watch it, mate. I was watching what looked a spoof of the London riots on Ch. 4.

Especially when you consider that winning just 1 Tour stage in a lifetime is often the pinnacle of the carreer for many of those guys.

Bizzare that they should have only one road race World Champion per year though - surely there must be room for a few more sanctioning bodies:think

will it make you feel better if I said since his Tour De France debut in 2007 he has won 20 stages, and 30 grand tour stage wins overall. Compare that to Lance Armstrongs whole career, he won 22 Tour stage wins. Now I know they are different cyclists, but the fact that Armstrong was so dominant and we have the benefit of looking at his whole career and not just 5 seasons, its quite impressive.

He'll be racing at the olympics, but in the road race(not on the track) which is on day 1 of the Olympics.

He is expected to take gold for team GB.

Froch has a great personality??? "I'm great & you're all ****!" Yep, Carl has stunning personality.... Now George Groves is a genuinely funny guy & he manages it naturally. Be interesting to hold an open-mic competition amongst British boxers, no-weight categories :hey Yes, Amir would still be picking up the wooden spoon but Carl would defo run him close.

Wow, that sounds well ****ed up.

Strange, but it always struck me as one of the most individualistic* of sports. Never would have believed there was such a strong team thing going on.

*not sure if this is a real word.

Always preferred the mountain stages, the classics in the Alps. The climbs are so f*cking brutal, 10km or more sometimes and then when you get a break-away at the front and the chasing rider/s can't respond as they've just hit the 'wall', their lungs are burning, legs are like lead, shoulders rocking from side to side as they're literally blown away and appear to be going backwards on a category 5 climb like Alp D'Heuz. It's no wonder they've been so many cases of doping in cycling because the punishment those guys put themselves through, it requires superhuman levels of endurance. Tour de France is, without doubt the toughest sporting event in the world, bar none.......approx 3,600km (or 2,200 miles) covered in three weeks :admin

Just have a look at this video of the world championships this year.

Notice team GB all lined up, and at the very back of the line is their sprinter Cavendish.

Each rider is taking a turn on the front (except cavendish), then they either rotate amongst themselves or in the dying moments of the stage peel off when they are totaly spent leaving 4 then 3 then 2 then finally just 1 guy left.
Also notice how other teams are trying to do the same, just not as effective as team GB in this case.
Ok in this case it starts to splinter near the end, but you get the idea before that. There is more clear cut examples of textbook lead outs from teams but I just cant seem to find a vid.

Yeah, love the mountain stages myself. This years Alpe de Huez stage was class.
But I have a soft spot for the sprint stages too and Cavendish in particular as he's won me a good bit of money over the past 3 years..
