not quite sure Hopkins was a great fighter the Tito fight had propelled him but the Oscar fight also took him to another place too If Oscar won maybe it would have down graded a little bit who knows im not sure id have seen this as a legendary win from 147 to 160
Cracks me up how hopkins best wins until pascal are all against tiny men coming up. ps. Oscar lost to every elite fighter he ever faced.
It was a catchweight of 158lbs if I recall but Hopkins came in at 156/157lbs for the Trinidad fight and regularly came in lighter then the 160 limit so I don't see how that excuse would hold up.
I kind of think that whole fight was useless. It was a good name for Bernard to have on his resume, but seeing how tough a time Oscar had with Sturm, who was nothing, he had no business in the ring with Hops. If he beat him it would've been his greatest victory for sure. But Oscar was fuked so hard in the tito robbery and Mosley 2. That **** was the fights Oscar really needed to cement his legacy. He won, but didn't get the win.
de la hoya deserved to get robbed at least 30 more times in his career for that gift he got against Quartey
How do you figure? I've seen that fight 20 times. Oscar landed more punches, knocked Quartey down more and absolutely dominated the most important round of the fight almost stopping Quartey. All stats are in Oscar's favor and Quartey got robbed? It's amazing. Just because Oscar got knocked down once, haters think he should have lost but overlook the fact Quartey was on his ass twice and got hit in the face more. Common sense plays a factor I guess. lol
Yeah, never been able to see that one myself. Always have Oscar winning at the end of the fight. Great fight though.
Yes, one of Oscar's most competitive and exciting fights. I had him down by a point going into the 12th. Quartey kind of shut down in rounds 10-12. Not sure if he was tired, hurting, or just over confident thinking just cause he had Oscar down, which was rare, he would cruise to victory. I remember foreman saying " he's smiling but he's not throwing a lot of punches. For every jab Quartey throws, Oscar throws a 3-4 punch combo".
He beat a shot Vargas (Tito took hs soul before), a shot to **** Chavez and got gift decisions against Whitaker, Quartey and especially Sturm. Btw he never beat Shane Mosley!
If oscar beat him we would have seen the Tito-Delahoya rematch at 160, Calzaghe would have stayed at 168 and fought Carl Froch/Kelly Pavlik instead of him
