Heavyweight limit at 230lb, then Eagleweight 230+

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Lead Right, Dec 23, 2011.

  1. Yawn............... Not this again. So when the Klitschko's retire we will have a division that looks like this.

    WBA champion Tye Fields

    WBC champion Dimitrenko

    IBF champion Tyson Fury

    IBO champion Wach

    Yeah, great idea.

Look I just said Eagleweight because thats what Shooto MMA called it a few years back. Whatever name, but don't think super-heavy as it takes away from heavyweight.

OK, maybe 230lb is a bit light, probably 240lb.

The original thought was that there are too many fat unconditioned heavyweights who make for boring fights. Back 40-50 years ago you had athletic heavyweights, Patterson, Ali and even Frazier. Foreman was big but still came in around 225lb. Today there are some overweight wrecks out there.

And again, its not more divisions if you drop some.

Of course none of this will ever happen. No way sanctioning bodies would allow it.

If you really want to remove the Klitschkos from the equasion 230 is a terrible thing, thats only a 10 to 15 pound dehydration for both of them.... even Welters can do that regularly.

I bet a 240 pound in shape man can dehydrate by 20+ and still be effective.

Also its just a completely god aweful idea including the name.

Why split up a terribly weak division further? More shitty belts? Cruiserweight has been a big enough disaster without more of this stuff.

******ed idea. The problem isnt size its just that nobody is good enough to beat the klitchkos. Wlad has been beaten by a smaller heavy before what makes you think its size? Huge heavies have always existed. Idea is stupid

Yes this should happen, when Haye fought Valuev he was outweighed by 100 lbs and about 10 inches in height, this shouldnt happen, there is a good reason for weigh divisions.

If you go into a boxing gym at anything over 6 ft tall you will most likely be taught to box using your height and reach, a lot of great heavyweights today have probably learnt like this but have to fight like a small guy against the 'super' heavyweights. A division with guys like Chambers, Haye, Povetkin, Boytsov etc would be good for boxing. And you can have another division for the much bigger guys, Klitschko, Valuev, Helenius and the guys that just wont lose the weight.

Like this the fights will be decided on heart and skill just like other divisions and not the height/weight/reach advantages that have made many heavyweight fights unentertaining.

Why not just watch the cruiserweight and light heavy division instead and pretend you've gone in a time machine to the 60's/70's watching the "heavyweight" division?

Adding weightclasses or shifting weight limits is not gonna do anything except delude a already rather weak division.
The only thing you could do is maybe put a limit on the % of bodyfat a Heavy is allowed to have so they dont turnup like fat sacks of crap.
