Calzaghe unbeaten 18 years > Ward unbeaten 13 years

 

Everyone seems to be underestimating Calzaghe's own adaptability..

 

the reason Froch couldnt beat Ward is because he hardly threw anything, Calzaghe's work rate would be too much for Ward

 

It's 15 years actually. He hasn't been beaten since he was 12. 27 now.

I can see that.
There very few boxers as polarizing as Calzaghe. I view myself(rightly or wrongly)as more of a moderate in that regard.

No need to prove it to me, we are in agreement in that regard. I meant what I said.....and that's not the 1st or even 5th time that video clip has been posted. These arguments are years old.

It should be clear to anyone watching that it is meant to discredit Calzaghe, and specifically his KOs/TKOs. It is clearly mocking and makes absolutely no attempt at objectivity. But I have seen enough boxing to be able to sort thru that kind of nonsense and focus on what useful info it may have. I am not defending the video's creator, but I think you'd be hard pressed to make a video like that of another quality fighter. The bad stoppages simply aren't there as often. That's my main point.

I think it can be summed up as we can agree that the clip, while lacking any objectivity whatsoever and omitting key details, does show evidence of a series of bad stoppages, but should obviously be taken with a grain of salt.

That's last is probably accurate, but I am certainly not in every Calzaghe thread. I gave up the discussion for quite awhile after deciding that both sides were hopelessly and irrationally dug into their positions. I have seen some realistic posts on the issue lately and decided to join the discussion again. (for better or for worse)

It would be an amazing fight. One thing I would say is there were not many Ward threads around here before his display against Froch. Calzaghe has been going for years and years though.

 

Agreed, although, I think the head thing with Ward is overblown. He's not going to stop many guys.....he doesn't pack the punch and its not his style.

Top post, GJE. It would take 8 rounds tops before Ward is relentlessly clinching Calzaghe like he was his girlfriend.

Fight could go either way. Ward is different than Calzaghe b/c he is a smarter, better schooled fighter. Ward is similar to Mayweather and Calzaghe is more like a Pacquiao. When faced with adversity one guy uses traps and changing gameplans the other guy does not have that option and just fights one way and tries to overwhelm his opponent with punches/slaps. I lean towards Ward given he would have more than one option and way to beat Calslappy. An old Bhop gave Calzaghe all he could handle and Ward is still perfecting his craft.

 

Calzaghe is no joke, it would be Ward's toughest fight.

 

He is not adaptable. It's either come forward and slap or go backward and counter slap. He is not good at going backwards either. He only has a southpaw advantage.

 

Young Joe was a beast before his hand & wrist problems.

A lot of people have only seen his fights with Lacy, Kessler & Hopkins.
