Why did naseem retire?

  1. I agree..... when you are fighting opponents on that level you need much more than just freakish power.

Especially when all three of them possessed above average power themselves and were more accurate, sustained punchers than he'd ever faced to that point.

Marquez and Morales would stand a very good chance at stopping him I feel. He barely had a clue with Barrera, who turned counter puncher for that fight from his natural pressure fighting style. Morales would just beat him senseless, and JMM would toy with him like a string puppet.

Wouldn't surprise me to see him quit on his stool or ''do an Ortiz'' and quit mid round because it wasn't going his way.

It was all downhill from the moment Naz split with Brendan Ingle and set-up his own gym which more resembled a shrine to his own ego.

Horrible *******, always hated him. Glad he's a fat joke now. Just a shame he didn't get in with Morales.

The Ingle style which made him such pure box office would ultimately be his undoing against a cream of the crop fighter. As natural abilities go though, he had very good power, a very good chin and was very quick. 99% of boxers would kill for just one of those attributes, so I think it's fair to say he didn't go as far as he could've done. A *slightly* wasted talent, perhaps.

It didnt help that he was a bantamweight fighting at featherweight.

His biggest strength, his flair and unorthodoxy, was ultimately also his greatest weakness. I still think leaving Ingle was the start of the end for him though.

You have to wonder, with him being labelled as a "wasted talent" and he UNIFIED his division, that tells you a lot about how far he could of gone!

His ego killed his talent and made him retire.

He could box and throw mad combinations in the earlier days, as he grew into his body he was able to throw serious leather and knock fighters out as well. 1 or 2 rounds is all he needed making an opening by swinging his body side to side or making them miss and throw ridiculously powerful shots. I remember watching robinson & johnson live, incredibly entertaining and that was before he went to america.

But the guys started loading up his shots and playing to the fans. He was getting serious money for knocking guys spark out as we love to watch the knockout artists. So he starts punishing himself heavy instead of boxing smart. He gets rid of his trainer because he's the only voice of criticism in his He loses his discipline. Then meets a fighter with as much talent and more dedication, he gets found out.

This is how I view the Princes career, IMO. Still love showing my mates his compilations to show how exciting boxing can be. I'd love for another prince to come through the ranks.

I think he had lost interest.Barrera did a number on him and I think he new it was time to go as he was not as effective as a fighter as he had been.He left with just 1 loss to a great fighter, its a great record and he is one of our best ever fighters.

Naz wanted Brendan ingle the guy who had moulded him since a young boy to go on £75k per fight instead of being on ten percent of his purse as is the norm and when ingle refused they parted company , what an idiot naz was penny wise pound stupid ingle only wanted what he was due but naz wanted to move the goal posts on him coz he was earning 5/6 million per fight, he forgets the hard work put in by ingle when he was only earning 3/4 k earlier on in his carreer .

Think his brother played a big part in it.Putting Raith in charge of his affairs was a big mistake.

to be fair,he was a crap boxer(at world level) with a MASSIVE punch, which can only get you so far at world levl, which,as it turned out, did.

he beat some decent world level boxers, but when he went to elite,he lost, simple.

    bit like hatton really

You're all wrong. It was his teeth.

I'm not joking. His ego couldn't cope with those funny little wonky gnashers he had, so he paid for a proper Simon Cowell makeover set. Only thing was, you can't box with false teeth like that in :deal

He was ultra unorthodox which at times made him look terribly looking compared to a nourished orthodox boxer! But his great power, speed and reflexes made a damn point and a superstar!

The guy had a chin and took some shots which did not phased him, the balance was an issue where he would tough canvas and get a count etc.

I was laughing at a few posts above where one stated marquez and morales would have knocked him out? lmao. Fuk ou of here!
