This is my preliminary timeline for the super flyweight division. Not 100% convinced with my timeline here, martin castillo deserves a mention I think but I can't seem to fit him in.

I don't think beating a mediocre fighter like Pical should take Galaxy over Roman.Gilberto was fighting excellent men like Laciar at this point.

I know Laciar had moved up in weight, but he was a tank and showed in his superfly fights he was similarly capable overall there.Pical on the other hand was a typical 80s IBF marginal champ who managed to struggle and get beat even against the cans he was defending against.

that was one of my concerns; maybe I put too much stock in the fact it was for all intents and purposes a unification fight.

When would you suggest galaxy becomes top man? I know ring had him there in 89.

I suspect a fifty fifty like this will split people so i'm not overly surprised by your response there.

Maybe I was looking for an excuse to put him in with being a hof fighter. I have looked into his individual career before and those factors combined with a top ring ranking for the late 80's early 90's probably led to me looking at a sensible point to put him top and the wba - ibf unification seemed to be that point.

That division actually has quite a clear unbroken lineage for a good number of years but i'm happy having galaxy as top dog for a few years. It's worth considering though.:?

Galaxy is one of those select few asian champs that ended up being oddly overrated by western boxing publications(and many of the so called self-titled "historians" that had a voice in the media or boxing circles)for years.

That's not to say he wasn't one of the top fighters in the division, but he never proved himself the best and had a lesser claim to it than others at the time who were involved in tougher fights.

    Orono-Poonterat could go either way.

Poonterat beat Watanabe the first time.

Khaosai was never the no.1 in the division.

I've never seen the poon - wat fight so took the result at face value. Is it readily available to watch or is it a rare fight?

As I said above about galaxy, I think it's fifty fifty and he has a decent claim.

Both Poonterat watanabe bouts are up on youtube. Most of his title fights are now.

I was going to upload a few starting with the Oguma bout, but they were all there already.Too sluggish yet again.

I'm sure i have it.It's a one-sided slaughter and one of zapata's very best performances if i mind rightly. That said this was back when i originally got loads of zapata fights, over ten years ago.I haven't went through most of that stuff since. The only time i've really watched zapata in recent years is re-watching the bassa fights when they went up on youtube.

Zapata slaughtering a 4'11 Thai?! Still sounds great.
