I like Calzaghe's volume slapping against Ward. if those volume slapping give trouble to the old master himself, B-hop, i guess it would not have trouble landing on Ward.

I compare this fight on "Baby Bull" Juan Diaz- Juan Manuel Marquez fight. The Baby Bull overwhelming Marquez in the early rounds with his volume punching... but they never called Marquez "Dinamita" for nothing, knocking out Diaz in nine rounds.

Which bring us back to this fight, the question is -- does Ward possesses enough dinamita in his hands to neutralize Calzaghe's volume slapping? I dont think so, coz that's the only way for him to win against calzaghe.

    Calslappy by ud.

For whatever reason Calslappy took over in the later half of the fight against Kessler and Grandpa Hopkins. I dont think it is very much a question about ad******g as much as it is to get a feeling for the opponent.

Ward is not all that multidimensional. He fights by confusing the distance. Usually goes inside after moving forward and throwing a few shots. Tries to squeeze in a punch in the clinch while he is at it. Uses counterpunching against pressure fighters. It is a refined why of fighting and works real well. I still think Calslappy would have beend able to stick to him. Also, Calslappy is not the kind of fighters that stops working on the inside.

But obviously a very tough challenge and not a given.

    Serious question:

Did Calzaghe ever face an opponent with the equal of Ward's defensive skills? (a past-it RJJ doesn't count)

If so, how did he do?

    I have to agree gents.
Froch is very slow and limited. What is the top SMW that Froch has beaten?
Pascal didnt do anything at the weight
Dirrell hasnt beaten anyone, his best win is probably Oganov
Taylor was 1-2 in his last 3 fights and is now 1-4 in his last 5 losing his last fight to a fighter that cant compete at SMW
Abraham hasnt done anything at SMW and was coming off a loss (as was Froch)
Johnson was a dreadful SMW, and has lost more fights at the weight than he has won. Johnsons best SMW victory was A Green coming off a loss.

The most accomplished prime SMW Froch has beaten is probably B Magee.
When Froch fought a fighter who wasnt totally faded and had been a top SMW he lost (Kessler). I dont count Reid as he was very faded.

I dont think Froch would have beaten many SMWs from yesteryear. Ottke/Beyer I think would have boxed rings around him and Im not sure Froch would have beaten Veit. I am expecting a big backlash from that.

People want to big up Froch for Wards benefit but Froch didnt accomplish as much as B Mitchell when all is broken down

What defensive skills of Wards? Wards face was bruised up against Froch, its just Froch doesnt hit as hard as he believes. All Ward does is go up close to nullify the punch power so the opponent wont get the leverage they want. But Calzaghe could work in close also and had the speed and ability to move and change angles.
Eubank, Hopkins, Jones still had defensive skills and all lost.
If you think Jones was so shot, look at Jones in his fight with Calzaghe and look at Froch in his fight with Ward and tell me honestly who you really think would win between that version of Jones and that version of Froch. Jones was faster, more powerful, more skilled and was back adapted to LHW so not as vulnerable and I think Calzaghe hits harder than Froch and far more often

awful Calzaghe nuthuggers don't realise their slating of Ward is so transparent it's desperate.

Trying to slate Froch who doesn't have any question marks on his resume unlike Calzaghe. Yes Calzaghe wins every fantasy match up ever you losers because you have no frame of reference because Joe didn't have the balls to step up untill Jones and Hopkins were 39 and 42 respectively.

I wonder if Froch turns down any super fights stating he knows his limitations like Calzaghe did?

    Unlikely

    ahahahahahahahhahaha

Calzaghe said so himself before he fought him!!!! in his autobiography.**** you really are desperate.

Why don't you come back and compare Ward when he's older because as it stands he urinates over Calzaghe's resume at 27. FACT

Forgetting Calzaghe was 36 when he had those fights.
Calzaghe didnt turn down a super fight, he said he wanted to be paid well. Whats wrong with that? Jones wanted 10 mil originally, Taylor wanted 10 mil, Hopkins turned down Calzaghe and asked for double the money and then didnt even fight for a quarter of the original money offered in his next fight after. The wanted The crown Jewels.

*THIS VIDEO IS ON YOUTUBE: 'Roy Jones jr looks ahead to Calzaghe'*

Steve Bunce: When did Joe first pop up in a conversation?

Roy Jones: When he beat Chris Eubank I started watching him then.

    Steve Bunce: 1997

Roy Jones: I knew it then...but he then kinda backed down on the opponents he was fighting so I RELEASED THE IDEA OF IT [fighting Joe].

So Jones admits he was aware of Joe early on, but wasn't interested in fighting him.

    BBC, 21st November 2001.
"It's all very well being the best in the world, but you need big names for big fights," he reflects.

A fight with the Eric Lucas, the WBC champion, is a possibility, but unification fights are notoriously hard and expensive to arrange.

As is a bout with Roy Jones.

"To be honest I'm getting quite fed up with it," Calzaghe said.

A bout against the undisputed light heavyweight champion has been the subject of ongoing speculation.

"It's difficult because of the different networks involved. He's with HBO and I'm with Showtime - that's a massive obstacle in itself.

"Secondly, you've got to ask yourself whether Roy Jones would want to fight me.
"At the moment he picks his own opponents, fights the easiest guys he can and gets a lot of money for beating them.

"I'm dangerous and I can take the mega money out of his pocket. Why would he want to fight me?

Jones himself made the statement that he did not go fight him because it was too risky be it in the UK or states...he stated that on National TV while commentating on Calzaghe/Hopkins those words exactly get a copy of the fight and find out yourself....If Jones said it himself then any argument you have is out the window because Jones stated nothing about why should I have...I was ranked #1 he was ranked # whatever he said...IT WAS TOO RISKY FOR ME AT THAT TIME ESPECIALLY IF I HAD TO GO TO THE UK... he added nothing in on it....

roy jones the man who fought Richard Frazier the part time cop and then bragged about his greatness afterward....
