Was just watching Jeff Fenech's first title win against a game Shingaki (bad stoppage IMO) and to me he's a good example of very physically powerful fighter who has little snap on his punches. The most obvious recent example is Andre Ward, with his inside bullying of a well known tough fighter in Carl Froch. Ward hardly is a huge puncher. What other classic examples of physically strong, but weak punching fighters are there throughout history?

Good shout with Tim Bradley, never really considered the Magic Man, but I can see it I guess. How about a Middleweight Duran?

Duran wasn't that strong at middle but he could hold his own. Duran doesn't deserve a mention.

However Jake LaMotta does. Ali too I think.

Gene Fullmer, Steve Collins, Vito Antuofermo, Mustafa Hamsho, Lionel Rose, Herol Graham, Ken Buchanan

Not all featherfisted, but none more than average for power.

Carmen Basilio had a great overall left hook, but his power to physical strength ratio was slanted heavily to the former, especially against fighters above Welter.

    Emile Griffith
    Duilio Loi
    Kid Gavilan
Marlon Starling (although it's a bit of a stretch to call him a light puncher, he definitely had pop)
    Carlos Baldomir
    Johnny Tapia
    Gene Fullmer
    Vito Antuofermo
    Jake LaMotta

Most of these guys had some kind of pop, but none would be classified as big punchers. I would class them all as strong fighters, though.

Winky Wright is a physically strong fighter, but not a big puncher. I don't know about calling him "light-punching", he hits hard enough to sting and get respect, but he's no puncher.

Carnera was not a hard puncher for a super heavyweight, but he probably was compared to the cruiser sized heavyweights who were common at the time.

    Wonderful breasts in this thread.

I've always thought Hopkins was a strong dude. Maybe Kalule fits, too. Armstrong had some serious strength but wasn't a monster puncher.

The stormy one once knocked a man out cold with the first punch he threw!

Harold Johnson. Great physique, fairly light puncher though.
