Let's give BoxNation a chance?

Over the last few years we have had so many threads like - Lets start at boxing channel.

Since September we have had one. It is far from perfect, but I have not got used to seeing a lot more fights and would be gutted if the rug was pulled and we went back to Saturday Fight and Ringside as my weekly TV Fix

I tenner a month would not get you 3 pints in a pub. However those tenners clubbed together keep the channel afloat. If we advocate boycotts/non subscribing etc there will be the inevitable cashflow crisis followed the channel vanishing. I am not sure how many on here actually want that to happen?

If you don't like the channel you don't have to subscribe, but those who want to have a boxing channel need other fans to sign on as well to keep it going.

What should BoxNation do to keep the cash coming in?

Non Subscriber PPV - For the big fights non subscribers should get the chance of viewing for the night for a straight tennner without any further commitment in order to get the casuals involved.

Link ups with related sports - MMA & Wrestling come to mind. My lad is obsessed with Wrestling which is a marketing dream. Sky have WWE which costs big money, but BoXNation could link up with the rivals and broadcast in the daytime to get the kids watching. Same with MMA and other combat sports

I think an online Q&A with the men at the top would help.
It would also be an idea to distance the product / channel from the promotor FW as this seems to cause most of the issues.

I think a sister channel of MMANation would be something to look at down the road but to dilute Boxnation within the first few months would not be good.

Basically they need some decent cards set in stone. Late Jan / Feb / Mar should be decent. Realistically if the numbers dont come in then they never will.

My feeling is that the channel is too ambitious. If it was to focus on solely broadcasting the international bouts (generally cheaper for the rights) they could build an audience. but trying to compete with Sky like for like is destined to fail.

All the same issues that Setanta had early on - over investing being the worst of them.

The moneymen must have done financial projections as to subscriber levels when they set the channel up. Those who have signed up are locked in until May. Therefore they have some fixed income until which can grow. The problem is come May if those who sign up on the launch do not renew there would be massive cash flow problems

Setanta went for the football subscribers and learnt that Sky are too big to take on.

It is a double edged sword - football brings in the viewers, but sucks you dry financially.

I wasn't really offering it as a defence. Just saying that, since a lot of the top brass come from Setanta, it's interesting to watch them make the same mistakes.

You can make a profit out of low viewership content, you just need to be smart how you market it.

It would be interesting to know how much a card like the Selby v Simpson bill cost? It is content like that what I hope to see each Friday night

I've given them a chance which is why I've committed £50 to the next 6 months. People need to chill on the hatred and bringing them down BUT they need to be continously called on their mistakes. For a specialist channel, they are making tonnes of mistakes and they need to stay true to their word.

Challenge shows TNA and Sky show WWE. I didn't think there was anyone else out there of night.

MMA is all about the UFC or you are taking a risk because in a short period alot of MMA orgs are going bust. If they could, getting SF on a yearly deal to show their 8 showtime fight cards would be good.

I advocate non subscriber PPV and I think that could bring them in a decent amount every time they showed a genuinely big fight. A number of those subscribers may think **** it, I'll sign up for 6 months instead of 2 or 3 PPVs.

The number 1 thing they need to do is get their domestic affairs in order. Every single Friday or Saturday night we should be watching a British card that is showcasing all the domestic titles as well as C'Wealth and Euro. They are failing to do this.

The international cards have to be bought as they go along but there is more than enough choice. Why aren't they purchasing the Dec 30th card in Japan. 2 world title fights and 1 Japanese title on the line. Legit fighters.

Where are the press conferences, training footage. Frank ****** has access to a HUGE stable of fighters but we aren't seeing the potential developed both in fights made and insider info that should come from a specialist channel.

The website has taken way too long to develop and the production is pretty poor.

There is ALOT BN need to do from a professional perspective in developing their brand but FIRST AND FOREMOST we want to see fights!!

The website and errors on TV show me that the people involved don't have a clue about boxing and this is poor from a specialist channel.

:dealthis whole post :happy but especially the highlighted, he has a massive stable, why arent we getting any build up to fights? BNs own 24/7 etc, how hard can that be? it cant be that expensive surely and face-offs etc, the weigh in, interviews, magazine shows etc? thats the reason ive held off subscribing, was gonna do it when it encrypted but payday got delayed, planned to do it asap, but the wheels have fallen off big time, and their promises have fallen by the wayside
