If Bute isn't worthy of a shot at Ward, how is Dre Dirrell worthy of a shot at Bute?

    From the latest OTR interview;

"We’re going to sit back and see what the best move to make as a team, but I just think Bute needs to beat some A-level guys. I mean I’ve heard Dirrell say he wants to fight Bute, and Dirrell’s on the comeback trail. I think that would be a great fight. Carl Froch, I think personally Froch will probably take a tune-up fight or a lesser fight to kind of regroup, but that’s up to his team and after that I think he should go to Lucian Bute. Those are the kind of guys I think he needs to beat and then I think the fight would even be bigger, and I think he would then warrant a shot at some of the big belts that we have."

...I do agree that they would both -Ward and Bute- make more money in a fight where Bute is coming off a Froch win.

What I disagree with, is that Ward thinks Bute doesn't deserve a shot solely based on past opposition. He then goes on to say that Andre Dirrell is someone Bute should beat to qualify.

Dirrell & Bute are great talents who don't have A level guys on their records.

So Andre, in order for Bute to qualify, he must beat a similarly dangerous SMW who has a sub-par resume just like him?

    WTF dude?

Dirrell's resume is weak even compared to Bute's. :yep

FFS, just say you need a break, need to get rid of a mandatory, something other than... "this top 5 SMW doesn't deserve a shot". Makes you sound like a *****, which obviously you aren't. And I mean both parts of that statement.

    ;)

Dirrel went to Nottingham to fight Froch, this in itself is more brave then anything Bute and co. have done in their whole career.

Dude give it a rest for got sake.

Bute needs a name on his record before Ward will touch him.
    Rightly or wrongly.

    Froch / dirrell or Kessler.

    Deal with it.

...and that makes him an 'A level fighter'? :huh

Froch, Kessler, sure. Would amount to bigger purses for both Ward and Bute in the end.

But to say Bute needs to beat an A level fighter 'such as Andre Dirrell' for the sake of beating an A level fighter, that's BS.

So to travel and lose is enough qualification to get a shot at Ward? Are you serious?:nut:nut

His highness , SOB , is untouchable. No "unworthy" man should be aloud to fight God's son again. You can retire now , Dre.

Dirrel beat Abraham, and i for sure had him winning against Froch, if it was not in Nottingham he would win, so i think it would be good fight, and for sure not easy for Bute.

I think it'd be a good fight too... Bute could be overwhelmed with Dirrell's athletic ability, movement, reflexes etc.

To say Bute must beat Dirrell to qualify for a shot though, is nonsense.

Dirrel could overwhelm Bute only in a 100 m sprint contest.

In all fairness though, Bute's ability to work the body with his left hand against southpaws who move a lot, is unknown. Magee wasn't a mover.

Against Froch who's orthodox and not very quick (hands AND feet), I see no issue with Bute's left hand connecting wherever.

Bute-Dirrell is an intriguing matchup to me. The fact Ward considers Dirrell as a worthy opponent, and considers that Bute should beat a guy like Dirrell to qualify, just ****in baffles me.

To have a set of balls is enough qualification to be taken seriously.

Dirrells best win is arguably Oganov. Which isnt great.
Ward has shown what hes about now. Ward hadnt done much to earn his shot at Kessler but wasnt begrudged, yet Bute is a winner of 10 world title fights and has beaten more top 10 opponents overall than Ward and has looked better against common opponents, but Ward want Bute to up the anti. Pathetic.
Ward has just shown himself to be a stay at home hero avoiding the top challenge when presented. It is easier to fight fighters with a blueprint on how to beat them

Ward is talking about Anthony Dirrell, and the only reason Ward is talking about fighting him is because Dirrell is going to be a mandatory for Ward. Ward can't NOT fight him.

As for Bute, look at it this way, if Ward fights Bute next, and tears him apart with ease, how easy would it be for people on ESB to shrug and say, "Well, we told you Bute is a phony who never fought anybody. OF COURSE Ward was going to do this to him. Are we supposed to be impressed?"

But if Bute beats Froch next, and looks good doing so, how credible will those "Bute never fought anybody!" chants be then?

Ward's team probably know that, and that's why they want to build tension for the fight. You don't fight the main boss first, you fight the henchmen!
