In context he has a point. If revenues and viewership goes up, then he's obviously doing a good job. He's changed the sport's image massively. But I've yet to find a promoter who manages to get it right for boxing.
Eddie is a very promising promoter. The most promising in a long time. Maybe since Hennessey had a stable, tv deal and ****ed it all up. Eddie has the big fighters and doesn't seemed afraid to risk them in big, even losable fights. He is talking about Froch vs Bute, we saw Khan vs McCloskey, Barker vs Martinez etc The prizefighter is a decent format. If BoxNation does go down the pan then Eddie can pick up the left overs.
I know a lot of people think Eddie Hearn is a Jedi Knight or something, but he looks just like another promoter to me. First, along with his dad, they've been slowly ruining the mainstream appearance of boxing with that Prizefighter shite. Second, he's been putting his guys in big fights that they've all lost. Also, are the Hearns building fighters, or just picking up the disconsolate ones from Frank and Mick's stables? None of this means they aren't doing a good job, but I have the feeling in five years lots of folk will be whining about how awful Hearn is.
yawn yawn yawn.is there anything you don't have an opinion on(which is 99 times out of 100 bollocks, anyway?)
I have variously seen ******, then Hennessey, then Booth/Haye, then Hearn all proclaimed as the great saviours of boxing. They all **** it up and then everyone fixates on a new hero. Just an observation. Is there something with people having opinions? Or just the fact you're so insecure that my having a strong opinion makes you insecure in yours'?
Have to agree with DFTaylor here, Prizefighter is an abomination, I cant bloody stand it! It just doesnt work on so many levels. Watched a bit of the snooker stuff on the BBC website, the 10 minute clip with Stephen hendry fronting the changes Hearn has made to snooker, & I thought Hearn came over as a complete git. 'Oh we are bringing in more money & thats all that matters, **** the players' 'Im making the the working class work like they are supposed to do' Sounds like Barry has been doing christmas dinner with David Cameron & Jeremy Clarkson...
As for Eddie Hearn, the all new "saviour" of boxing, loved it when on the Froch-Ward build up show Hearn & Froch got out of a taxi, Froch's luggage was left on the kerb & Froch called over to Eddie "will you get that for me?" Cue Eddie Hearn pulling a stunned & somewhat miffed expression, & Froch giving a knowing laugh to the camera & picking up his own luggage... Pure class from big Froch, showed Eddie up for being as up his own arse as his old man
I love Prizefighter, it is a great format and most of the shows have been very entertaining. Also, it is interesting to note that the viewing figures for Prizefighter are very high compared to the standard Friday or Saturday fight night show. Snooker can benefit with some innovation, but I think it is wrong to tamper with some of the major tournaments so I have to agree with Mark Allen's stance. They should bring back Pot Black, I used to like watching that.
