Yeah , it's true now its all about 'tapping' and 'scoring' points. But depending on which gym you go to you still get lads that like to plant their feet and bang. Despite being an amateur I hate the am style, I'm more of a power puncher so I ending brawling ...much more fun.
strongly disagree with this post. i have trained thai boxing and it isnt that great for boxing. the footwork is very different for a start. the fact that you would be klearning to kick, knee and elbox as well is redundnant too and means effectively 1/4 of the time is spent mastering punching. there is no head movement either in mt. there are thousdands of thai boxers in britain yet it appears only 1 has done anthing in boxing. i have seen plenty of thai boxers and most are **** boxers. get the kid to a decent gym and trhey can learn a more pro style early. i would go with bill miller. think he learnt of futch and benton and made james toney so he will do for me!!!
I have never heard of him before now. I Got to do some research on him. sounds interesting, especially the parts about controlling the pace and being ring general.
Cheers for that, Mand. Although not sure about Rick's teaching of the right hand over on the inside. I think it should be more compact. Plus the feinting he's teaching is too obvious, have to be a little subtle with feinting. Good fighters pick that up and won't fall for it.
:good Get impression it's for starters, intermediates not sure. Like to see who he works with actually.
Is the trainer of the late 80s/early 90s coming back in fashion?:think For those who do not know; Benton was a training god of the late 80s, the Main Event's (Whitaker, Holyfield, Taylor et al) house trainer.
Depends what you're looking for. Thai fighters are usually well-organised, strong and awkward. Some serious beasts have emerged from there. Then again, their background shapes their character. Maybe wouldn't gel as much with other nationalities because the art resonates with their culture. Cracking post on Georgie BTW. I'm planning an Encyclopedia article of him, gonna' upload summat to YouTube first to compliment it ;-)
