Exactly where does the Toney love come from? I think he was a talented fighter but his resume at 168 is **** poor. He did nothing but lose to RJJ.

The James Toney who completely toyed with Iran Barkley and even Barkley's seconds said they loved him in the end of the bout would simply be too smart, too heavy handed, too slick against Calzaghe and his massive volume of punches and relentless pressure.

It's obvious Joe Calzaghe's granite chin and lightning fast hands will demolish the glass jaw of James Toney in 4 rounds tops. Irrefutable. Calzaghe had a 100x better resume then the joke that is Toney. Fact. Who has Toney ever beaten that compares to the likes of the vicious Robin Reid, the ATG Mikkel Kessler, the Mike Tyson of middleweights Jeff Lacy, and prime Chris Eubank. Vassiliy Jirov was a pillow-fisted bum of a fighter who feasted on bigger bums his whole career. Calzaghe was triumphant over 2 All Time Greats in Bernard Hopkins and prime Roy Jones Jr. When you defeat 2 legends you become 200% legend. fact.

The problem with fans today ..If there isn't a popular name attached to a fight it amounts to nothing ..Find out what he did before the Jones fight and then get back to us .If he had retired before RJJ he'd be revered like Floyd Mayweather and Joe Calzaghe !

You say that like Barkley was someone to beat. He'd already been beaten by a shot Duran and destroyed by Nigel Benn. He was an average fighter.

Barkley was perfect for Toney, anyone who thinks he'd look that good against Calzaghe is mental.

im not a big fan of calzaghe but for me he launches a thousand slappers on toney who just shoulder rolls them and as he launches his own counters here and there occasionally , but clazghe would win by mere volume punching I think,. joe "pillow punch"calzaghe wins this in my book...

You are obviously a butt hurt alt.
For one Calzaghes nationality was Welsh even though he was born in England. I doubt you know the difference.

look at the level Toney was fighting at, when SMW champ

1993 he wins the title from iran barkley a fighter who years earlier was blown away by nigel benn in 1 round and pummelled to a loss by a shot roberto duran barkley went onto lose 11 out of 25 fights following this fight and never beat anyone who was remotely good in doing so,the guy was so desperate he was even plying his trade as a HW in the late 90's against the likes of berbick and they say this era is a joke

govonor chambers a guy with a career record of 9 wins 7 losses, all 3 fights prior to toney were ko losses!

ricky thomas: won 11 lost 14,the 4 fights he had prior to toney all losses!

glenn thomas:won 29 lost 8, lost to roy jones prior to toney and finished his career with a first round ko loss to jeff lacy.

danny garcia: won 30 lost 22, was coming off losses to chris pyatt (a steve collins victim) lamar parks etc

larry prather: won 19 lost 24,lost his last 5 fights prior to the toney fight even losing to nicky piper

tony thornton: won 37 lost 7,lost to chris eubank a year earlier.

anthony hembrick: won 31 lost 8,lost to maske prior to toney and orlin norris a year earlier.

tim littles: won 27 lost 3,maybe one of his better wins, had fought mainly bums with the exception of a close UD over frankie liles, went onto lose to frankie liles in a 2nd contest following the toney fight.

vinsom durham: won 21 lost 37 enough said.

charles williams: won 37 lost 7 drew 3,lost to maske prior to toney.

and finally the Jones fight where Toney lost.

Toney had the most dreadful run at SMW. Anyone that thinks Toney who couldnt beat S Williams at first ask, or couldnt beat the legendary Thadzi and looked lucky to many against Tiberi could possibly beat the best SMW ever is deluded.

Calzaghes resume at SMW and LHW far outweighs Toneys.

So all these dummys that think Toney could pick Calzaghe off forget that Tiberi was beating Toney on weak pressure and Calzaghe has alot more to his game than Tiberi
