How Come Calzaghe Never fought Pavlik? Who Would Win If They Fought?

Not a random bum but he was over hyped.

Pavlik was a very well conditioned, physically imposing MW, who was some what a one trick pony in terms of Boxing skills, good jab or double jab, then followed up with a good hard right hand.

Hopkins showed you that if you take that away Pavlik has nothing else to fall back on, Calzaghe could do that to Kelly and Kessler would out jab him all night long, IMO Mikkel had the better right hand too.

Pavlik's superstardom was built on two wins over what was an over hyped Jermain Taylor who has never fulfilled his promise, and Garry Lockett who was a European champion at peak. Miranda was a good win but not worthy of building the hype that Pavlik got.

Above the 160 weight class, KP loses his size advantages and has to rely on his limited skills.

This is a silly question. Calzaghe would have played with him like a cat with a very large, alcoholic mouse.
I can't think of a fighter better designed to make Joe look good and Calzaghe was a muppet not to take the fight.

Why Calzaghe went for Jones instead of Pavlik and Dawson i will never understand, well actually tell a lie he was motivated by money whereas he should have beaten 2 young upstarts instead.

 

Agreed on almost every point. I consider myself a pretty big Pavlik fan. I've even seen him fight live. But he never developed past the jab/right hand stage.

 

Pretty much all the boxing fans acknowledge this fact apart from a few haters/Ward fans.
