History repeating itself... Ward/Ottke

    Can you see history repeating itself in the SMW division when comparing Ottke and Ward?

    1. Both are feather fisted
    2. Both are stay at home heros
    3. Both refuse to fight their closest rivals (Calzaghe for Ottke, Bute for Ward)
    4. Both of their rivals agreed to meet them at their homes. (Calzaghe said he was happy to go to Germany, Bute said he was happy to go to Oakland) to no avail
    5. Both have excuses to not fight their rival. Ottkes team said Calzaghe would have to fight out of Germany for a while to become recognised :patsch, Wards team said Bute needs to fight some other fighters first :patsch.
    6. Both Ward and Ottkes rivals looked better overall against common opponents to them.
    7. Both their rivals won world titles before they did, yet they still found excuses.
    8. Both seem to have dodgy decisions. Ottke with mainly Reid, Ward with D Boone
    9. Both have had refs that appeared favourable. Reid got warned by the ref several times against Ottke. Bika, Kessler both got warned against Ward.
    10. The judges at home for them have both been favourable, for Ottke against Reid and Ward againt Boone and being given a shut out against Bika
    11. Both had the champ travel to them when contesting their first world title attempt

    The haters will try and change the subject, but can you see the similarities?

    This obession you have seems harmless but looks can be deceiving. Why put so much effort in empowering Joe's career when you should be comfortable with its current status. Ward is nothing like Ottke....I don't think your doing Joe any favors here.

    Now back to the thread, You say there are no similarities, yet I have given several. Can you not see them?

    Ok, so there's no hidden agenda here? So this comparision has nothing to do with Joe and his relationship (or lack there of) with Ottke?

    Well if your going to ignore your subconscious on this one then maybe I can see some similarities....but the details that you have provided have no real substance other than the fact this sort of scenerio comes a dime a dozen in the fight game. I mean what's your point here?

    Ward's level of competition is far higher than Ottke's, and he blew out that level of competition. Case closed. Ottke has more in common with Calzaghe than he does with Ward, not that there's much in common there either.

    The Ring rules get bent to suit. Notice how Froch beating Abraham coming off a loss, got put above Kessler who beat him in his previous fight. Rules bent to suit.
    Calzaghe/Lacy was only made a Ring title fight I expect because Lacy was expected to win. Lacy was #3 SMW not 2 at the time, but the Ring made an exception.
    Its a magazine belt and means very little. Pacquiao and Mayweather are considered the 2 best P4P fighters in the world and neither has a ring belt

    Sad to think Lacey was actually considered a top flight fighter after getting tagged with everything but the Kitchen sink against a fighter named Ruben Williams :oops:

    How do you work that out?
    1. It was only Ottkes 13th fight when he won a world title

    Consider how A Ward is raved about. Ward has had 25 fights, by this time Ottke had made 12 defences.

    2. Ottke made 21 title defences and was a winner of 22 world title fights

    Consider how Hopkins MW reign is thought to be special yet Ottke had more SMW title victories than Hopkins had MW victories and overall fought better opposition

    3. Ottkes reign was impressive when you consider he wasnt a puncher and didnt have an equalizer in his fists.

    Look at who Ottke with feather fists beat

    This content is protected
    who went on to become the Ring & IBF LHW champ
    This content is protected
    who went on to become the WBA LHW champ
    This content is protected
    who went on to become the 2 time WBA SMW champ

    This content is protected
    the former WBC SMW champ and still world class
    This content is protected
    the former WBO MW champ (a smaller fighter)
    This content is protected
    world class who went on to become European champ
    This content is protected

    That was when Ward was an amateur still Ottke was also a decorated amateur and won a Bronze in the world champioships
