    the truth is that should have been the fight but calzaghe knew he had 1 fight left and chose the fight that would make him the most money.

    Not what I see on this forum or many articles and his ATG status is mostly fueled by slathering nationalism that doesn't reach across the pond as much as some brits might want it to.

    So, you can try to write it off as "haters" and "Ward fans" (showing your complete insecurity), but the fact still remains, he's a HOF'er no doubt, but ATG's don't have their greatest fights against two over the hill legends and achieve that status. Sorry...

    the world doesn't revolve around what ignorant, narrow minded, delsional americans think you thick **** :lol:

    everyone will always remember that calzaghe beat hopkins on foreign territory sandwiched between the best victories of hopkins entire career (wright, tarver, pavlik, pascal).

    Pavlik's team did not want it. I wanna say that JC was calling him out quite a bit and Pavlik's team just did not want it.

    I remember there being talks about this one getting made.

    Wright - career middleweight who's first fight at LHW was against Hopkins, Wright naturally the smaller man

    Pavlik - career middleweight who's first fight at LHW was against Hopkins and is a drunkard and naturally smaller man

    Pascal - Drew their first fight, won a close second fight

    Tarver - Good win

    This all to say, Hopkins was 43, and Calzaghe's greatest win. That is irrefutable and not something the title of ATG should be given out on.

    you do know that calzaghe also made 20 defences and unified the 168 division against your undefeated mini tyson and kessler and won his title against eubank, the man toney and jones ducked :deal

    that was before he moved up to 175 and beat ring champ and p4p no3 hopkins in america at his 1st fight at the weight despite a corrupt referee and 3 american judges :deal

    His other best wins
    Trinidad - smaller man
    Oscar - Small Man
    says alot about Hopkins
    Completely avoided the super middleweight division to duck calzaghe

    Calzaghe was slowing down aswell by the time he fought hopkins.

    He took the Hopkins fight for the lineal LHW belt which everyone wanted, and then the Jones fight which was worth more money and who Joe respected as a legend and always wanted to fight. After that he lost his urge and retired. There was real talk of a Joe-Pavlik fight at this time, aswell as a Joe-Dawson fight. Wish Joe had taken those last two fights and whooped those American punks like he did Lacy, but it was not to be. Difficult to hold it against a 36-37 year old man for choosing to retire on top.
