Yep. He's massive, agile, active, iron chin, will of a warrior, excellent power, awkward style... just a journeyman in the 70s though
My point was that if you're at the top of your game in your era, you'd probably be at the top in any era... I don't believe in the assumption that talent comes in waves of generations, so 20-40-60-80 years ago fighters could have been that much better than the contenders of today... Different times, different stories, but a winner will always be a winner, regardless of when he was born... To make a sports comparison, a guy in my country (Eddy Merckx) was recently declared the greatest cyclist of all time (allthough he was known as the greatest since just about ever...). A lot of Americans would disagree, citing that Armstrong won more Tours than he did. How would those two fare against eachother in the same era? One thing is for sure, they would be serious rivals! But somehow in boxing, the guy that was on top in the new millenium, can't hold a candle to the guy from the eighties...and in turn that fella sure can't beat any of the greats of the sixties and seventies...and so on....etc...
He was faster? Yes, please go on. I'm curious how far you can go without everyone knowing you're trolling. The only things I give Chuvalo over Vitali are body punching and better punch resistance. Then again, with the extreme disparity of defensive ability between the two, he needs it. "Hi. I'm Keith. I make assumptions about people, based on my own skewed perspective, and I just made Klozoff's ignore list. Yay!" I'd add-not even a Vitali fan, really. I don't even rate him in my top twenty heavyweights. But, I really, really don't rate the likes of George freaking Chuvalo or Ron Lyle in that company either, thanks.
You really are a ****ing moron. Vitali is much better technically, has much more punch power and output, has a MUCH better chin, has a unbeatable defense, out lands his opponents 100% of the time, do you want me to continue raping you?
How did all of you miss this beaut of an effort??? This ****face feels Vitaly gets beaten by journeymen in the 70's but guys he totally dominated and stopped (Gomez, Peter, Arreola and Johnson) would do better in that very same era. atschatschatsch OMFG!!! These threads never dissapoint... Even that little neurotic douche Keith showed up.
People always be trolling the Klitschkos. Fact is they'd both hold up in just about any era, because of size and athleticism. VK I think holds up better, nobody has "really" beaten him. Stopped on a cut and an injury isn't the same as someone just beating him. Lewis won the fight, but he didn't beat VK. People ****ing hate that, but it's true. Lewis never gave him a rematch, so we'll never know. Someone here said he'd be stopped by Foreman and made to quit by Norton. Explain your ****ing self? Nobody as ****ing stopped or KO'd Vitali yet (outside a cut, which was pure luck on Lewis's fault that he happened to get him just right to do it). Boxing is the worst at overrating old school athletes... at least in Football and Basketball we can admit that guys today would do very well in prior eras, if not just dominate them.
Vitali has barely cracked the top twenty, IMO. But much of that is based on poor resume and a lack of good competition. H2h is a different matter. I have little doubt that h2h, he is easily a top 10, and therefore, would be a champion in most eras. The seventies ? Bad pick for Vitali. Three of the guys who would possibly or probably beat him were around then. Ali, Foreman and Holmes. Between them, they straddled most of that decade. He could have won a piece of a belt towards the end of the decade as he would probably have beaten John Tate, Leon Spinks, Mike Weaver etc. The sixties might have been kinder to him after the Ali exile. Prior to that, the only one I would consider a possible favourite over him would be Louis. Not saying there weren't others who might have got the job done, but I wouldn't make any of then a favourite.
I think he would be considered a much greater fighter if he had the chance to fight in the 70's but he would also have a few more losses on his record.
I hate breaching that tiresome Lewis/Vitaly bout again but before that fight, all these Lewis/anti-Klitschko losers were predicting that Vitaly would not get out of the third round. Vitaly's performance definitely left them groping for excuses. According to some on this thread, Vitaly is lucky he was not facing Chuvalo, Lyle, Quarry or Cooney that night.
I would only favor Ali or a young Foreman over Vitali. He's a quality champ who doesn't get nearly enough respect imho. Same for Lewis, they're neck and neck with Lewis only a bit better.
With his size and skill he'd be avoided like the plague, he's a stylistic nightmare for any HW ATG due to his size and unorthodox style, plus he has a granite chin unlike his brother.
