Although I agree with you on Floyd's subliminal high skill level, your statement about legacy or resume is plain stupid. How else do you judge a fighter than? ****, watch me shadow box or spar my locals and you would think I can out box margarito. No way in hell I would in real life though. There is a lot more intangibles to boxing than just skills. Just saying....
Hold on Floyd neutralizes and makes elite level fighters useless. I exaggerated to get the point down, but he still doing all this against good fighters. I much rather watch tapes of a highly skilled fighter and see if I could pick up on any tricks I can use even if he's missing a few names on his resume than obsess over the loaded resume of a lesser skilled fighter. skills are learnable. intangibles are harder to learn.
Yeah, I see your point and I agree. I always tell my girl and her friends, that although Pacquia can be exciting, Floyd is the true master of the craft. Of course, they look at me like, "but pacquia just demolished so and so, and May went to distane with them". Which is typical for those that don't truly understand the sport. You make sense in your first post about the fighters knowing what they are watching. Oh and I also truly do believe that Floyd is the best as of right now, but I was just making a point that resume and legacy are very important. And I also give pacquia credit for all that he has done and consider him one of the best, but I just don't see him having a chance against floyd
yea I know what you mean about pacquiao. He's done quite a bit in the sport but isn't a master boxer. margoe who isn't considered very skilled for an elite boxer was still able to turn his fight with pacquiao into a battle of will. Someone with mad skills is able to frequently keep the fight as a competition of skills instead of will. skills is tested if they held up against the elite names on the resume.
prove how hes avoided pacquiao, winky or cotto. if im not mistaken, cotto turned down a fight with floyd back in the day to protect his 0'. ya he ducked margo tho but it really doesnt matter cuz he was exposed as a plaster wearing cheater.
because he has an 0. And ppl who dont know boxing (and think they do) think he's godlike / unbeatable in the ring.
Floyd didn't avoid Winky. That is bull****. Its debatable that Floyd avoided Cotto and Pacquiao. I'll give you Marg.
What? The thread starter mentioned that boxers and trainers think of Floyd highly. So they don't know boxing?
http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2005/Jul-17-Sun-2005/sports/26894987.html Wright, whose 154-pound belts were stripped from him by the sanctioning bodies, hopes to fight Nov. 5. And Las Vegan Floyd Mayweather Jr., the WBC super lightweight champion, said he would accommodate Wright. Mayweather has a Nov. 12 pay-per-view date against an undetermined opponent. "I would fight Winky Wright and could make it happen for November," said Mayweather, who won the WBC 140-pound title last month by stopping Arturo Gatti. "I'm a risk-taker. All that has to happen for the fight is for HBO to come to the table. I respect Winky Wright, and he's the best 154-pounder in the world, but I'm the best fighter in the world. "I want to be the best ever, and to do that, you have to take risky fights, fights people think you can lose. Well, after everyone saw how he dominated Felix Trinidad, that would be a risky fight for me, wouldn't it? But I'll still take it." Wright laughed when Mayweather was suggested as an opponent. But when told Mayweather is serious, Wright turned serious. He praised Mayweather for his willingness to move up and said he would take the fight if contracts can be made. Mayweather said he is confident he can beat Wright, who last fought as a middleweight and won all 12 rounds against Trinidad. "What makes Winky such a great fighter is that he is a good boxer," Mayweather said. "But he's not a big, big puncher. He should have stopped Trinidad. That's how I feel. When you dominate a guy like that, and he was extremely impressive, the fans want to see you step up and finish the job and stop him." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/boxing/4160766.stm This content is protected A proposed showdown between the pair appears to have fallen through and Wright believes Mayweather's challenge to him was just for publicity. "I had a feeling the fight would fall out," he told the Tampa Tribune."I just knew it was a ploy all along for him to get name recognition by challenging me. I didn't think he ever really wanted to fight me." ................................ if floyd was never really serious about fighting winky and was just ****in' around, then technically, it's not a duck.
Floyd is the best fighter of his generation..and of many other generations. Live with it. Learn to accept. You'll feel better afterwards.
Pac is still ring magazine p4p number one. Not sure if he should be. By your logic Foyd last fights were meaningless. By that time he shut out JMM who gave Pac hell recently. Why should Pac be number one?
