Is Overeems striking overrated?

Not at the minute, Overeem would snap his chicken legs

But hypothetically, If he bulked up to HW(and still maintained all the qualities which make him so good now) like Overeem did then he could pose problems for him because although he isn't that great technically(I'm very fond of saying this I know:D) he has a long reach and is very unorthodox.

Has Overeem's striking become better than Kharitonovs since moving up to HW? :think

I think it depends on that. I haven't seen enough of Kharitonov to say so but I'm just going out on a limb and saying that Overeem beats him again.

I just seen something which is pretty interesting and true. Overeem has beat more world class strikers in one day than JDS has in his entire career.

Cigano's heavyweight record/resume is much, much better than Overeem's.

I know I just thought it was a funny fact :D

  6. No way. Overeems knees are one of if not the best in hw mma. Hands are like bombs and accurate. Folliw his career

Overrated? No, after the fight with Wedrum everyone was calling him a hype job who just got exposed.

Kharitonov striking by boxing standards is horrendous. Even though he fought in the K-1 he had no business there. He's just a dude who's in love with his hands but has the ring intelligence of child. Too many are quick to highlight Overeems loss to him without highlighting his win. Kharitonov was beaten into an unintelligible mess. Overeem would do the same again.

He's more of a Nick Diaz guy. He's good with his hands but that doesn't make him a good boxer even though he has boxed.

I'm taking Overeem over him as well judging on what you said. I haven't seen Overeem's win over Kharitonov just the loss.

Sort of. Except Nicks boxing (if you can call it that...) is effective. Kharitonov just has heavy hands and is a simple 1 2 guy.

His kicks and knees seem to be pretty good but his hands are not.

Yesterday it looked like a couple of inexperienced guys fighting. They were both within punching range with their guards down and neither was punching!!! That fight could have literally ended from a punch within the first 20 seconds but they did not commit to punches.

my issue with overeems performance last night is that he did not set anything up. it was just wildness. while that may work against an inexperienced striker like Brock, he leaves himself to get caught, and he doesn't seem to have the chin to go along with that type of recklessness

I saw the same and this is why im critiquing him. Unless he can put his shots together he's getting KO'ed by the first decent shot that lands cleanly.

I think you guys are over annalyzing it. Overeem seemed to just not care about Brocks striking, he wasn't afraid of it AT ALL.

I seen a man who was just trying to walk in and clinch another strong guy without being grabbed himself. Overeem was cautious of being wrestled but seemed to want the clinch to do exactly what he did, knees to the body.

Then he let him go and did it again. I don't think Overeems plan was to box Brock. I think it was to clinch and show Brock he is as strong and can hurt him on the inside. Which is exactly what he did.

As for JDS, I love watching JDS fight but as far as striking goes Overeem will be the best he has faced also. I think this fight is a wash. If JDS connects Overeem could go to sleep not doubts, but what happens if Overeem connects? JDS hasn't really been in trouble like he could very potentially be in with Overeem. I would think Overeem would instill the same basic plan. Somther and clinch JDS and see how he deals with the knees and clinch. I'm not sure JDS will deal with it that great. I'm also not sure Overeem will be able to instill THAT plan. It will be good for sure. I just wish people would stop over hyping AND underappreciating fighters. Take it for what it is........ a great match-up.
