I love Morales to death, but I've always thought that if Sal Sanchez had stayed alive, SRR would be #2 on the majority of P4P lists.
This content is protected Anyways, you're obviously of the opinion that Sanchez wins this fight, and I'd agree with you on that for sure. Morales got into brawls and his defense was pretty damn leaky to get the better of a sharpshooting counterpuncher like Sanchez, who was clearly the better technical fighter of the two. Stylistically, Morales didn't quite fit the mold of what Sanchez struggled the most with. It'd be a great fight, though.
Sanchez is the best featherweight I've seen in my lifetime.I'm a fan of Morales, too, but Chava takes him.
This fight could've gone either way. Sanchez is vastly overrated off of the Gomez fight, a fight against a 122lber debuting at 126. He also mightily struggled against a green/late replacement in Nelson. If you've watched as much Sanchez as I have, you'd know he wasn't unbeatable. Historically he has benefitted immensely as a result of his tragic death. Hence, the constant romanticizing.
Prime Morales was much better than anyone Sanchez faced at featherweight. Sanchez lost plenty of rounds to Patrick Ford, Juan Laporte, Pat Cowdell, and Azumah Nelson.
Chava was way too fluid, smart, and on a higher level than even the mighty Morales. Better stamina, better infighter, and faster combination punching from Chava not to mention an iron chin. I consider Nelson a better win than Gomez and despite him being "green" he was about the same age as Sanchez when they fought. If he was so "green" why did he destroy Gomez after the Sanchez fight? Nelson was never stopped ever again except for that last fight he had with Fenech which was more nostalgic than actual fight. Morales would struggle even lose with Nelson or Gomez he's not going to beat Sanchez.
I believe that the Azumah Nelson that Sanchez fought would have beaten EM,too. And before anyone here writes that Nelson was "green" in that fight, watch the fight again, because he fought magnificently in that one.Btw,I'm a fan of EM's,but there are many that believe that Wilfredo Gomez would have beaten him at 122(I personally don't).And EM lost a lot of rounds to fighters that he was better than, too.
Nobody is unbeatable, but Chava was most certainly elite.I've seen many of his fights just like you.Nelson may have only had 13 fights going into that one,but he did not perform in a "green" manner. He put on an elite display in that one.But I believe you know that already.
