Man did boxing go down the sh***** in the present day. Every true boxing fan knows of the Haglar vs Hearns showdown, but that doesn't mean they necessarily watched it. I truly understand why in boxing terminology one only has to say "Haglar Hearns" an anything after that if rhetoric.

This is the difference from guys like Ward.

Hagler beat his main opponent Minter on the other side of the atlantic.

Guys like Ward, Ottke etc. will never be recognized when just being protected in their own country.

These guys were fighting for pride and their legacy, not showing up for a payday. They weren't interested in protecting unbeaten records (Floyd Mayweather) and weren't controlled and protected as cash cows for their promoter (Manny Pacquiao).

On this day, the day of my daughter's wedding, and your gay dwarf lover's funeral, and we shall all dance, the safety dance, and the dance of joy and we can dance if we want to and leave our cares behind. Leave your friends behind. No, not their behind, but behind, in matters of distance. The equation is not equal to sublimated turnpikes on a shore convince for make benefit glorious Kazakhstan and you are too beauty for we will then see God in a swan bucket times a multitude in sadness for Rebecca's beautician sassafras bar blown suck a huckleberry jam pie buckle in a deuce and a quarter. Your hooptie brings all the boys to the yard, say, damn right, help me as I am Nigerian and have a business proposal for transferring monies, my friend across ocean transaction and you do not know me but I am your great fan as business associate, sitting on the passenger side, of your best friend's ride, as I try to holla at you, scrub and my best friend.

Unfortunately the fight did nothing to determine who the better of the two is.

With a broken hand, Hearns could obviously not keep Hagler off of him.

    Amen, brother!

This is exactly why us old farts always say that most fighters today don't compare to the old warriors. They don't. Today it's all about maintaining your record & not getting hurt, & stalling & negotiating....
Back then it was about pride.

BTW, the best thing about being older is having had the fun of watching those fights live. Hagler is my favorite boxer of all time.

I saw that was how they tried to justify that he would still have won it in the vid.

But nah... Taylor walked through Froch's punches all night and was still stopped late.

It is normal. Hearns rarely stopped his opponents on the first few right hands in the first rounds. The punch that stops you is the punch you don't see, and Hagler saw that enough to not get KOed from it. Happens all the time and then suddenly a punch in a later round that you don't see... lights out. And it doesn't even have to be as hard as those earlier punches.

We know basically nothing from this fight about who the better one is or who would have won. But still a great round until he broke his hand.

Broken hand or not, Hagler was a man possessed that night, very few if any middleweights could have gone 12 rounds with that Hagler who came out roaring against Hearns. Tommy just caught Marvin on the wrong night.
