Calzaghe's not even in the top 50 all time at 175. That division is deep with HOF fighters. At 168, RJJ looked his best but he also failed to fight the best that the division had to offer. That's where he missed out on fights with Nunn, McCllean, Eubanks, Collins, and Benn. And his win over Toney is slightly tainted because it was well known Toney was having trouble making weight. So in summary, Roy fought only one of the top 6 guys in the division, and fought him at less than that guy's best. I'd favor Roy in all those fights, but you never know. I always consider Roy one of the best ever at 168, but I won't consider him to have been the best and most accomplished. As crappy as Joe was matched early in his career, he still has that distinction with Ward on his heels. Ward beats Bute, then he has it.
I think Jones beats Calzaghe no question, how he does it im not sure, its debatable wether Joe's workrate and output would nulify Jones and prevent himself getting stopped or if it would ultimatley be his downfull. I think the only thing that was exposed was how frail Joe's hands really were, i dont think he dealt with the extra weight well despite being naturally a 14 stone man and looked depleted due to age and being in with an awkward opponent, i believe a younger Hopkins would be fustrated in much the same way he was when they acually met by Joe's handspeed and aggresion, the fact that his output was higher would only help Calzaghe land more punches. Well thats my opinion anyway, i guess we shall never know for real what would happen.:good
Are people actually ranking Calzaghe at LHW? Have you all lost your ****ing minds? He's a nonentity at 175. Number 1 at 168, but he has no presence whatsoever at LHW. And Calzaghe is one of my all time favorite fighters, but he was NOT a LHW.
I'm only rating Calzaghe on a HDH basis with history's 175lbers. In terms of accomplishments he is nowhere.
Correct answer H2H: 168 Jones #1, 175 Calslappy outside the top 50 Record: 168 Jones #3-4, 175 Joe . . . hahahaha
joe isnt ranked all time at 175 and shouldnt.....he had 2 friggin fights, against guys in their 40's one guy who had lost 3 of 6 and the other had lost 2 of 4.......
Depends whether you actually count it as a knockdown. Jones didn't land a punch. 4.25 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2xuBqpngzQ[/ame]
jones is top 5 at 168 hard to assess calzaghe at 175 but he would always belong one place above wherever hopkins gets ranked at 175.
Jones is up there at 168 but I think Joe is the best 168 lber Joe had 2 great wins at 175 but is not ranked there its a deep HOF rich division with guys with way more than 2 title fights and way more than 2 wins of HOF guys I think ppl **** on Joe's 2 wins too much though I though Calzaghe beat Hopkins clearly but it was just an ugly unwatchable fight vs Jones yeah Jones was passed it but Calzaghe won a tight one over Hopkins Jones was on a 3 fight winning streak yeah he was 39 but Joe was 36 or 37 so Joe was old too if i remember correctly Jones was still picked by a lot of people because Calzaghe was still a question mark in the US
Depends how you rate fighters. Jones' middleweight stay was relatively short but has one of the greatest victories. Super middleweight stay was short too and has one of the greatest victories too. Light heavyweight reign was the longest against good if sometimes underrated fighters. Heavyweight was just a one time affair. So it's a whole body of work in Jones' case than one particular weight class. Though one can rate him very high in any of the weight classes he fought (except heavyweight) - again depending on criteria one rates fighters.
