Well Calzaghe has the best resume at 168lbs, Jones only has one win at the weight against beat nobody at the weight Toney.

At 175lbs, Jones has a reasonable resume but arguably not the best of his era due to Michalczewski being boss and Calzaghe has a better win at 175lbs over Hopkins than Jones does over any of the LHWs he beat.

    At 168lbs clearly Calzaghe,
At 175lbs Jones due to how long he was at the division, but Calzaghe scored a better win than any Jones scored at the weight.

    Now the question.

Jones at 168lbs - would be very low down below other SMWs Calzaghe, Ottke, Collins, Eubank, Benn, Kessler, Beyer, Liles etc to name a few

Calzaghe at 175lbs - Due to only having 2 fights at the weight, wouldnt be rated highly, but the wins over Hopkins and Jones were great back to back wins that hold some weight

i've got to say that i have problems ranking roy jones for a couple of reasons

    1) roy never beat a linear or unified champion in his entire career - that is a really poor thing for roy to have hanging over his head.

    2) roy is a proven banned anabolic steroid user. its my own personal belief that a fighter who has been caught once is likely to have used steroids on many, many occasions throughout they're career. i despise cheating in any sport, boxers trying to gain an unfair advantage over others in a sport where a competitor could easily be killed as a result of juicing is disgracefull, absolutely sickenning.

because of this, i tend to place much greater emphasis on roys career after he had been caught red handed of taking banned anabolic steroids (from the hall fight onwards). from this point onwards i consider roy jones a CLEAN ATHELETE fighting off a level playing field.

now look at the appalling level of fighters jones faced after being caught red handed in the hall fight

    - eric harding
    - derick harmon
    - gonzalez
    - glen kelly
    - clinton woods
    - john ruiz (handpicked heavyweight, slow, no power)

absolute bog standard level of opposition - even a clean jones could beat this standard of opposition

then jones gets slaughtered by tarver and johnson

jones again fights low level opposition, just like his disgraceful 175 reign and surprise surprise . . . . . . he wins

    - ajamu
    - hanshaw
    - washed up trinidad

jones steps up his competition again v calzaghe and is systematically dismantled by joe calzaghe in one of the biggest one sided beatdowns ever witnessed on american soil

then jones goes back to his usual level of competition and the victorys roll on just like his appalling 175 reign

    - washed up lacy
    - sheika

ask yourself this - who has a CLEAN roy jones ever beat?

calzaghe was 36 when he beat both hopkins and jones.

jones was 39 when he fought calzaghe so why lie and say he was 41? :huh

hopkins was p4p number 4 when calzaghe travelled to america and beat hopkins in his 1st ever fight at 175 despite a corrupt referee and 3 american judges. this win for calzaghe was sandwiched between the best run of victories of bernards entire career in tarver, wright, pavlik, and pascal - so why are you trying to de-value it :huh

To be fair you make some decent point here, mate.

However you post is designed to take a **** on Jones and every single thing he achieved.

Jones took an over the counter supplement called Ripped Fuel which contained a steroid derivative and gave a positive result. It was completely unintentional and he had been tested in several states throughout his career and was always clean.

Jones was a phenom going all the way back to his amateur days and his skill and speed was dazzling. Sugar Ray Leonard called him the most naturally talented fighter he had ever seen, when Jones was just 18 years old.

Do you think Ray and Roy were cutting up anabolic in 1987?

Hopkins was P4P #3 I believe. I think Calzaghe was #4. Could be wrong. Either way Gayman has been made to look foolish and ignorant again

Roy just said it was Ripped Fuel but that wasnt the case, that was his defence, Read the whole link, you may learn a bit

    Roy was a paper champ
    An old post
Roy Jones a paper champion in the divisions he won world title fights in, between winning the MW title up to his fight at HW with Ruiz?
    Read on....

At MW Jones won a vacant title against a then unknown unaccomplished fighter in Hopkins. Should Jones have been declared as the MW champ for this win or should that honour have gone to J Jackson who although also won a vacant title fought at a higher level and won his vacant title against a then higher rated more accomplished fighter in H Graham.
Should Jones have been declared as the man at MW?

At SMW Jones beat Toney who wasnt a great SMW and didnt have a very good SMW resume. N Benn and C Eubank were more accomplished champions who were fighting at a higher level.
Should Jones have been declared as the man at SMW?

At LHW it is without a doubt that Michalczewski was the man at LHW.
The Ring LHW title disappeared in the 80s and reappeared in the 90s where it just handed its belt to R Jones, but if the line of you have to beat the man to be the man had been followed, the belt should have been handed to Michalczewski for his victory over V Hill. Dariusz was the WBO LHW champ but he also won and vacated the IBF & WBA belts before Jones won them. Also Michalczewski beat Rocchigiani who was wrongly stripped of his WBC belt.
So Michalczewski had claim to every one of Jones belts and should have been Ring champ.
Michalczewski was the MAN at LHW.
Should Jones have been declared as the man at LHW?

At HW Jones beat Ruiz but I doubt anyone felt Jones was the man at HW with L Lewis as champ. Still same question to the fans. I remember a comment that Ruiz beat Holyfield who drew with Lewis.
Should Jones have been declared as the man at HW?

It does appear that Jones fought some good fighters but never against the top man of any division up to his fight with Ruiz and was only ever a paper champion in these divisions. Also Jones was fighting alot of gimmes and beaten fighters.
