Footwork is often overlooked by the casual boxing fan but anyone with minimum knowledge of the sweet science will tell you it is ESSENTIAL in becoming a good boxer list the fighters with amazing footwork obviously Ali will be mentioned straight away so lets get him out the way i think erik morales had AMAZING footwork iv been watching alot of he's fights recently and he seems to hop in and out like a kangaroo from all differant angles lunging at fighters when on the move he often looks like he is tripping over hes own feet but it seems like he is gliding off the canvas ( this video shows a lot of it [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fuNL-iPdaE[/ame])
Hearns' footwork was amazing. There was a decent video on youtube that analysed Hearns but I can't find it now. Basically it showed how quickly he reacted to whatever his opponent was doing to completely control the range of a fight.
Floyd is very efficient. Marquez is really dynamic with his placement and and can maintain balance well and even punch in combination while moving. Barrera also has good balance. Pac's footwork gets **** on but it sets up his offense and defense very well and unpredictably. Ray leonard's footwork was always dazzling, as was Ali's; flashy at times, but not without purpose. Hopkins doesn't move if he doesn't have to, but he can control the distance extremely well. ^ Hearns is also a good shout, complete control of the ring at range while picking his opponent apart.
Same here, I love watching Cotto. That little dude Hernan Marquez seems to have good footwork but not amazing.
very interested in seeing this video if you can dig it up i always love seeing a great fighter analyzed it makes you appreciate them just that little bit more
do you also count the playful "running with hes back to hes opponent" as footwork ? that was always helerious to see
Juan Manuel Marquez is the king of creating space and baiting his opponents to walk into a counter punch by stepping back and then coming back in
