Best versions of both Wilfred and Emile at those weights, who do you have and why?

A much closer matchup at super welter than welter. Benitez may have edged him at least once in a trilogy at welter (I always think of Griff as a bad news sort of guy in rematches)..but as you move up in weight, Griffith is considrably stronger than Benitez, as he no doubt would have been at welter as well, only more so. Plus, Griffith himself was one clever, tricky guy himself, with a mechanic's versatility that would have given him the edge at 154. Glad you didn't mention middleweight, because Griffith would have been too much for Wilfred entirely.

Thank you. You alone. For the love of God, you alone. I wouldn't be interested in any H2H at MW for Benitez, yeah. I love him and have to give him the benefit of taking one of three or I will have nightmares. But, I agree Griffith would be more likely to get the nod. I don't know about strength at 154 being that significant. I'd have to think about it. I just keep thinking about Hearns.

My pleasure pardner!:thumbsup I'm in tune with both of these guys...and the eras that they fought in. It's a good thread topic and a matchup I haven't seen proposed too often, if at all.

Griffith was a monster at 160..light puncher..."dull" by the standards of many, but a physically strong freak..those wide ass shoulders of his. His strength compared favorably to Dick Tiger's even in both of their fights..though Emile was smart enough to play the matador to the bull.

Griffith was a master mechanic...he would have neutralized Benitez at 154 or 160..but I'm fair enough to say that welter would have been a very, very close affair IMO.

I think Griffith was just a bit too much for Benitez but what fights they would have been. Benitez would make it tricky but Griffith would muscle him and take a UD.

Nice match up that i have never thought about.

Griffith wins it but it's close. If he trains, The Radar could win one out of a 2 or 3 fight series which probably would've happened in Emile's time.

Doesn't seem to fit somebody of Benitez's caliber. Seems weird...

Griffith is underrated, and sadly so. He was one of the subtlest, clever fighters ever..and ever the 15 round pro he was..
