This rematch with Weaver & Dokes in 1983 Vegas was the goods..... However, nobody gives a mother duck anymore....

the whole thing is on youtube ! its a great fight.

holmes fought witherspoon on the same card. i wonder how Holmes would have done against Weaver or Dokes on that night.

Page also beat Snipes the fight before Dokes - Weaver, possibly Greg's best ever showing.

Never saw it, but I'll take your word for it that it was a great fight... I did however see the first match on youtube. Exciting exchange of big shots for the very brief period that it lasted.. One of the most contested stoppages ever, and I agree that it ended prematurely, but Weaver was definitely in trouble.

I thought the draw was fair, but Weaver actually did do better than expected against a prime, but so-so conditioned Dokes....

I would not call it a great fight. I'd call it a good fight with a typical , alphabet influenced decision of that era ... Weaver was robbed by the DK fighter team, plain and simple. He deserved the decision and did not ..

Not sure i'd call it a great fight either. The action was in spurts at times, small ones.

The draw imo was a fair verdict. This was no robbery. Almost all the press and cards i read had it within one point. Mzany agreed with the draw. From memory BI scored it for Weaver by a single point.

I didn't think Dokes-Weaver II was an "ATG" or even that great of a fight at all - just a good, solid fight at best. The first few rounds were exciting, but then it settled into a monotonous pattern of Dokes moving and jabbing, while Weaver chased, but failed to land effectively.

I'm also in the minority who feels Dokes won this fight fair and square, by landing more punches while on the retreat.

And if Greg was smart, should've went after Dokes instead of Holmes, in retrospect, they even mentioned it to him in an interview.

Well he was mandatory for Holmes and even when that fell thru he fought witherspoon for the vacant title. He did get his chance.

The WBC belt was the true / linear belt at heavyweight when Holmes was wearing it from '78 to '83...... Holmes gave Snipes a shot in late Nov. 1981 to prepare for the epic battle with Cooney come June 11, 1982.... Point is, had Cooney beat Holmes in 1982 would team Cooney go after and seek dude's like "Weaver, Page and Dokes" in 1983???? I doubt that..... The Whacko Twins would've kept Cooney inactive for a year and then have Cooney fight Earnie Shavers or James Tillis for a first defense... Shavers and Tillis were still able to be considered in 1983 despite some of their recent losses....

The WBC belt was sewed up from 1978 to 1983....... Not cuz Holmes ducked anybody, but because he was beating anyone they put in front of him... Holmes was great.... By 1984, Holmes was proven great..... I cannot blame him looking to coast a little by 1984...

True, it's just that I remember him being rated #1 by the WBA as well by the time of the Holmes abdication.

Don King got Weaver the 1st time with a quick stoppage and robbed him the 2nd time with the judges

Always knew that Michael Dokes was protected from the first Ossie Ocasio fight on.
