Back in the day people didn't have platforms like this to express their views, nor did they have things like boxrec or a huge collection of boxing news' or video tapes. So yes they were less knowledgable about boxing in general.

Although I personally prefer Eddie it's not good news at all to have promoters making it harder to work together in the future.

Yep agree with that. What I don't go along with is Bunce alleging that there was such a lack of knowledge on fighters and what fights back then really represented to the extent that certain careers would not have developed at all if there had been more information available. One of the big reasons that scrutiny has increased is that we are having to pay for a lot of the boxing we see these days as opposed to previous terrestrial tv days

Did somebody post on here that Cloud is big in America? That, I'm afraid, makes this whole thread a genuine comedy. He's big with a dozen people that illegally trade fights, but with fight fans...really...or is he big like Tim Bradley? Chad Dawson? That type of big, sorry...I was thinking along the lines of 20,000 people paying to watch a fight...that, in my crazy house, is still big.
    Hof,
When I started covering boxing for a living in 1984/85 reporters had no real option but to believe a promoter when he said that X was X. I used to pay for Fightfax to check and each time I contradicted Duff he would get angrier... he kept getting angry until he could ban me, which he did for three years.
I'm sure there were 'real' experts like you...but you were not at shows, I never met you, Sorry.

    Adios.

Amir Khan is the only household name, active in British boxing.

Hey buddy generally I'm on your side. I just felt you overstretched the point a bit in response to my good pal the Brown Bomber in terms of the impact of that lack of information. Wasn't a personal attack on his Bunceness. Anyways, all the best with the exciting line-up for 2012

Sad but true. And really "household name" is stretching it a bit for Khan, his profile is nowhere near what it was when he won an Olympic medal or when he was fighting on ITV.

How you doing Kool? Haven't seen you around here for a while.

Yeah if one poster says Cloud is big in America it makes the other 120 posts a joke.:rofl:patsch

There is no bigger dick head on this forum than yourself Dunce. When Fwank lets you go when Boxnation goes bust I expect you will change your tune again and let your real thoughts known but until then you have no credibility when it comes to discussing Fwank. None.

Thats my point, the only way he's going to be any kind of name in Britain is to be able to say he's beat the best around and has the belts to show it. That will start getting peoples attention regardless of whether the opponents are notable to the public at the time. The same way Joe did towards the end of his career. He's not in a 'marquee' division at the moment and he's not a heavyweight, pretty much the same situation every British fighter finds themselves in except for Haye and Khan who had momentum behind them for differing reasons that most people don't benefit from.

The other side of this is he will pick up momentum in the States for beating people like this, and if he shows the ability he believes he has theres a chance he could make it on HBO etc in the longer term, so it does have an upside. Beating Karpecny won't go any way to achieving that.

Kids on the internet these days. Ali against Wepner and a Wimpy breakfast. What more do you want for your 10 quid? Dom Negus could've been. Tavoris Cloud never will be.

    Adios
