Where do you rate Vitali Klitschko among ATG heavyweights?

Same with Tyson, so where do you rate Mike?

Tyson also unified the championship. When he was champ, there was no plural about it. it Was Mike Tyson.

Now, people either say one of three things. Wlad, Vitali, or the Klitchkos, like they are one ****ing person or something

When one of them unifies and beats all of the best fighters then you can ask questions about Tyson.

Holmes wasnt "shot", he was still good enough to be competitive at a very good level & nobody ever flattened him like Mike did.

He wasnt Mike's best opponent but was certainly one of his best performances.

 

So a 38 year old, who had lost twice to a LHW and hadn't fought for almost two years prior to facing Tyson, wasn't shot?

 

Correct because that same, old Larry was still good enough to beat Mercer & be competitive with Holyfield.

He fought on for years after the Tyson bout & no-one ever came close to doing what Tyson did.

 

Why do people consider Vitali to be so good in mythical H2H match-ups when he lost against 2 best opponents?

He deserves credit for staying in good shape & being consistently good against todays HW division.

Frank Bruno probably did a better job than Vitali did, at least he was fighting against a younger Lennox.

Its ironic that Vitali fanboys always claim he is this superior being , yet his first loss was to a former MW....

My list is h2h of course , I hadn't sorted d HWs based on other than h2h criteria yet .

 

I have to rate him very far along the ATG list. He's had a fantastic career, was never KOed and only lost twice because of a cut and a shoulder injury. That is why he's an ATG. However, he needed that Lewis win to cement his legacy. What would Frazier be without the Ali win ? What would Schmelling be without his win against Louis ?

 

He beat a fat, retired old Holmes yes, but that was not even close to the best fighter he faced.

Tyson lost every time he got in the ring with a great fighter, he also lost to average and below average fighters.

 

I rate him as an extremely difficult opponent for anyone throughout history. Regardless of how you see him faring against past champions, I think it's pretty safe to say that nobody would walk right through him. That would be ridiculous, and we all know how the nostalgic fans love to assume that the old timers would spark the current champs right out or win every round against them. Nostalgia can make even level-headed people irrational.

 

This keeps coming up with Holmes. "Holmes beat Mercer, so he was still competitive!" But the same Mercer who Holmes beat four months later was begging 18-9 Jesse Ferguson not to hit him anymore and also lost to 7-9-2 Marion Wilson, and I watched both, Wilson kicked Mercer's ass but got robbed....
