I've been to shows, am I a 'real' fan? I read books on boxing, am I 'real' fan? I have DVDs about boxing, am I a 'real' fan? I watch videos on youtube, am I a 'real' fan? I refuse to pay for clear mismatches, am I a 'real' fan?
Bunce, pay attention please: Who watches Boxnation?????? Not your casual fan. He wouldn't pay £10 a month on 1 channel (in addition to the sky/virgin fees) for just boxing. The majority of subscribers are the hardcore Brit fans and its us your chatting to on here and were not happy about the **** Frank is putting on! You keep referring to our ignorance regarding the business side of boxing and that we should just accept the Karpency fight - yet the the promoter who we are referring to has had one promotional company go bust! With 1 failed promo company and one sure to fail TV channel i don't think its us posters who you need to patronise about the economics of boxing. Please do not feel as though us mere mortals cannot understand what it is like trying to run a business in the live sports / entertainment sector when you keep such company.
Zing! Up there with the greatest thread-killing posts ever. Demolition job. All we need now is Max Kellerman to stick the boot in.
I'll add one of these too. :deal. These type of fights together with old economic justifications are what makes people cynical about boxing. You don't have to go with a Froch run of opponents but paying customers have a right to expect a competitive fight.
Wow, a pounding. Nice, thanks. Let's turn it on it's head for tonight's BBC London show: What British fight does the Boxing Business need to make it stronger. Only ONE entry per person. It can be a fight in Montreal, Cloud's mother's kitchen, York Hall but there has to be ONE British/Irish boxer involved. Post here or emails:steve.bunce@bbc.co.uk Adios.
Kell Brook Vs Amir Khan with a good, proper build up and a solid undercard featuring Anderson Vs Groves 2.. :good
Brook-Khan is a good fight. Burns-JMM, or Clev-Hopkins would be huge aswell. EDIT: Just noticed you said one, Steve, I'll go Clev-Hopkins then. (Even though it'd be a one sided fight in Hop's favour)
Not an exact answer, but THE best fight for British boxing would be a top class Frank W fighter in a winnable fight against a big name, in the UK. by that, i don't mean John Murray being fed to Bam Bam Rios, or Delboy being fed to Vitali. And certainly not Cleverly verus Karpency. I wouldn't put Burns in with Marquez, or even Cleverly in with Cloud or Pascal (hes certainly not ready for that.) How about: Burns vs Guerrero
